Highlights

  • Shadow Rayquaza may be the next Team GO Rocket Takeover event addition.
  • Pokemon GO players should save Meteorites for Shadow Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent move.
  • Meteorite acquisition for remote players remains challenging in Pokemon GO, so if players do get their hands on some, they may want to hold on to it for Dragon Ascent.

A Pokemon GO fan has noted that players should avoid using their Meteorite on Rayquaza just yet, considering the fact that they might need it if Shadow Rayquaza is released in the next Team GO Rocket Takeover event. Giovanni's lineup typically changes once per season during the Team GO Rocket Takeover event, and as per leaks, Shadow Rayquaza might be the next Pokemon that could be coming to Pokemon GO.

Niantic is organizing an Elite Raid featuring Rayquaza in Pokemon GO, which is one of the most powerful Pokemon in the game. However, more than the Pokemon, fans have been using the event to get Meteorites, an item which is necessary to mega evolve Rayquaza - though it might not be that good of an idea to use Meteorite if players have got one.

Pokemon GO Fans Are Unhappy Over Potential Event Spawn Change

Niantic adds a new bonus to the Aquatic Paradise event and fans think it will be detrimental to the future of event spawns going forward.

In a new post on The Silph Road subreddit, user mcmillan789 reveals why players should not rush with their Meteorites. They highlight that Shadow Rayquaza is quite likely to be the Shadow Legendary as part of the Giovanni Timed Research. Mega Rayquaza is quite powerful and definitely several notches above base Rayquaza, but Shadow Rayquaza should boost the offensive capabilities of the Pokemon even further. Emphasizing how drastic the difference can be, the user goes on to add how even a 6/6/6 Shadow Rayquaza can be better than a regular hundo Rayquaza in Pokemon GO when it comes to attacking power.

The post has left many Pokemon GO fans confused, as Shadow Pokemon cannot be mega-evolved. However, it is not the mega evolution for which players should save their Meteorites. Instead, what is crucial is the fact that Meteorites are used to teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent in Pokemon GO, and that should be the case for the Shadow variant as well. Dragon Ascent is an incredibly powerful move, and players should definitely use it in place of Frustration, a practically useless move that all Shadow Pokemon have when caught.

Getting Meteorites Remains Tricky For Pokemon GO Players

The difficult part is going to be saving Meteorites for Shadow Rayquaza. Players need to win an Elite Raid in order to get the Meteorite from either of the two Timed research that is being organized in the event. Pokemon GO players, especially those who are living in remote areas are having a lot of issues getting players to take part in the Elite Raid, even if they find one in the first place. Remote raids are not possible for Elite Raids, and even the free Meteorite giveaway also requires players to do Elite Raids in Pokemon GO, so a lot of fans have been unable to get the sought-after item. If they do, though, they should hold onto it for Dragon Ascent.
