The Bug Out event goes live today in Pokemon GO and trainers are going to have a lot of exciting activities to keep themselves busy during the week-long event. In addition to the Bug Out Challenge Timed Research, there will also be some special Battle Raid bosses around for trainers to challenge.

Chill Drive Genesect is taking over the Tier 5 Legendary Battle Raid spot during the bug-type themed event and Mega Scizor will be appearing, as well. The Mega raid boss offers an exciting chance to stock up on some valuable resources, so Pokemon GO trainers will likely want to prepare an appropriate counter roster before heading out into that fight.

Luckily for trainers who are doing a lot of Battle Raids during the Bug Out event, the featured Legendary Pokemon and the featured Mega Pokemon both share an aversion to Fire-type moves. As a Bug/Steel-type Mega Pokemon, this particular raid boss is going to have a serious weakness to Fire-types. The battle can still be challenging given its Mega nature, but players should be able to assemble a very strong counter roster (especially if they have been saving up some Mega Candy from previous battles).

Mega Scizor Weaknesses

Mega Scizor has a 2x weakness to Fire-type moves.

Mega Scizor Raid Counters

  • Charizard (Mega Y) - Fire Spin/Blast Burn
  • Charizard (Mega X) - Fire Spin/Blast Burn
  • Houndoom (Mega) - Fire Fang/Flamethrower
  • Reshiram - Fire Fang/Overheat
  • Darmanitan - Fire Fang/Overheat
  • Moltres - Fire Spin/Overheat
  • Blaziken - Fire Spin/Blast Burn
  • Emboar - Ember/Blast Burn
  • Entei - Fire Fang/Overheat

Given the simplicity of Mega Scizor's weaknesses, it should be pretty simple for trainers to stick to the recommended strategy and come up with a solid counter roster. Although Mega Fire-types are going to be the best bet here, it's totally fine if players don't have the resources to field that type of counter roster. If that's the case, just be sure to stick to the strongest Fire-types available and head into the battle with enough friends to provide some backup (ideally a group of five or more experienced players). Trainers may also want to consider burning through some Stardust, TMs (or Elite TMs), and Candy to get their counter roster equipped with the best move sets possible and up to respectable CPs for the Mega battle.

That should everything players need to know to get through this Mega Raid, but keep an eye out for other Bug Out guides that could be useful in the coming days. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO news, updates, and strategy guides. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
