The Pokemon Company hosted a special presentation today that gave Pokemon fans a glimpse of what's to come. This included new content for Pokemon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch, but it also included some brand new content for the mega-popular mobile game Pokemon GO as well. As announced by The Pokemon Company, Pokemon GO is getting Mega Evolutions at some point in a future update.

It remains to be seen exactly how Mega Evolutions will work on Pokemon GO, but the language used by Niantic suggests that they may be available to catch in the wild and separately from their standard counterparts. This would be in stark contrast to how Mega Evolutions have worked in the main series Pokemon games, as they are activated in the middle of battle to give players a temporary advantage. More information on Pokemon GO Mega Evolutions should come to light as we near the feature's release date.

Meanwhile, fans don't have to wait any time at all to enjoy the other big Pokemon GO announcement Niantic made at the event. It was also confirmed that Galarian Farfetch'd is now available to catch in Pokemon GO, with the Pokemon now appearing in the wild. Farfetch'd is a region-exclusive Pokemon in Pokemon GO, so Galarian Farfetch'd offers a unique opportunity for players to better-complete their Pokedex if they haven't caught one already. Based on our own testing, Galarian Farfetch'd spawns seem to be quite high at the moment, so players may be able to just open their game and catch one right away.

While Pokemon GO players can catch Galarian Farfetch'd right now, they won't be able to evolve it into Sirfetch'd. At the time of this writing, the evolved form of Galarian Farfetch'd is not in the game, and one has to imagine that it won't be added until Pokemon GO gets to adding Gen 8 Pokemon, which is likely years away. Even so, fans can prepare for Sirfetch'd's eventual debut by catching as many Galarian Farfetch'd right now as they can.

The addition of Galarian Farfetch'd to Pokemon GO and the announcement that Mega Evolutions are coming were easily the two biggest POGO reveals made by The Pokemon Company today, but they weren't the only ones. It was also confirmed that, in celebration of the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor expansion, new specially-themed avatar items are being made available in the shop. There's even a Galarian Farfetch'd hat for players to buy, if they're so inclined.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
