Pokemon GO may be starting to introduce Generation 6 Pokemon to the game aka the ones from Pokemon X and Y (in fact, two more should be coming to the game very soon if recent teases on Twitter are anything to go by), but Niantic isn't going to neglect any of the older additions any time soon. One Pokemon that originated in the Gold and Silver games will be receiving particular focus this weekend: Marill.

Since Fairy-types will be appearing in the wild more frequently thanks to the Luminous Legends X event going on at the moment (where players can encounter and catch the legendary Xerneas), Niantic will be adding a new Limited Research event this weekend on Sunday, May 9th all about Marill. The event is scheduled to run from 8am to 10pm local time, but it will only last for that day.

Niantic doesn't give much in the way of details, only saying that players can complete event-exclusive Timed Research tasks and Field Research tasks in Pokemon GO that will lead to more encounters with the dual Water/Fairy-type. And while it doesn't sound like there's any guarantee, Niantic adds that there'll also be a chance to encounter a Shiny Marill, which is colored bright green as opposed to blue.

Speaking of Shiny Pokemon, one incredibly dedicated fan has managed to obtain every possibly Shiny Pokemon throughout the entire series. This even includes the different Shiny forms for Pokemon like Vivillon and Unown, which also come in different variants.

The focus on Fairy-types is obviously due to the inclusion of the aforementioned Xerneas, which is a Fairy-type itself. However, fans can no doubt expect another, similar event to occur afterwards tailored around the other main Legendary from the X and Y games: Yveltal. It was already discovered in a datamine but Niantic has since confirmed that a Luminous Legends Y event will take place once the Luminous Legends X event ends. And since Yveltal is a dual Dark/Flying-type, it will instead focus on Dark-types.

Most Pokemon fans are likely also preoccupied with the recently released New Pokemon Snap, which came out for Nintendo Switch only a few days ago. A sequel to the original Nintendo 64 game which released in 1999, it tasks players with studying Pokemon in the wildlife and, instead of capturing them, taking their photos. Pokemon GO even held a cross-promotion event to help advertise it, though it has since ended.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS devices.
