Pokemon GO has revealed the details for its upcoming Lunar New Year event, including a brand-new Shiny and increased spawn rates for a plethora of Dragon Pokemon. The massively popular monster-catching mobile game from Niantic often features limited-time events for various holidays, featuring unique Pokemon and rewards. The game's recent "Dazzling Dream" event gave players the chance to catch plenty of Fairy Pokemon, including shiny variants of Cutiefly and Ribombee. Now, Niantic is ringing in the Year of the Dragon with a new event centered around Dragon Pokemon.

Pokemon GO's Lunar New Year events have been a staple of the game's yearly holiday-themed events, focusing on new Pokemon revolving around each year's animal. 2023's Year of the Rabbit event saw increased spawn rates for Pokemon like Buneary and Bunnelby, with Fire Pokemon like Magmar, Ponyta, and Fennekin also featured. The event featured the Shiny form of both regular Darumaka and its Galarian version as a special encounter during the event. Now, the Year of the Dragon features Drampa as its starring Pokemon alongside plenty of other Dragons.

Niantic officially announced its newest Lunar New Year event earlier today, giving plenty of details about the special bonuses in Pokemon GO. The event will act as the formal introduction of Drampa to Pokemon GO's lineup, featuring increased spawn rates as well as its shiny variant. Others like Dratini, Noibat, and even the elusive Jangmo-o will appear as part of the event, with others like Goomy and Turtonator appearing as Raids. Pokemon GO's Lunar New Year event will begin on February 5 and is set to run through February 11.

Alongside the plethora of Pokemon spawns, Pokemon GO's Lunar New Year will also feature plenty of other bonuses for participating players. Players will see an increased chance for Lucky Pokemon appearing through in-game trades, as well as an increased chance to become Lucky Friends. The event will also feature a Global Challenge tasking the global playerbase with completing 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws during the event. Clearing certain thresholds will unlock unspecified exclusive bonuses that will run throughout the remainder of the event.

The debut of Drampa to Pokemon GO comes as just one of a multitude of Pokemon introduced to the game throughout recent updates. January has already seen new Pokemon forms like Hisuian Typhlosion, Dusk Form Lycanroc, and the previously mentioned Shiny Cutiefly. Niantic has also confirmed the upcoming debut of White-Striped Basculin during 2024's Pokemon GO Tour, with the variant form first introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Pokemon GO's newest Lunar New Year event looks to have plenty in store for players between Drampa's addition and several featured Shinies.
