Pokemon GO has confirmed that the July 2023 Community Day Pokemon is none other than Generation 1 Water-type Poliwag. Pokemon GO Community Day events happen every month, giving fans of the popular augmented reality mobile game the chance to add some fresh shiny Pokemon to their collection.
Featured Pokemon during Pokemon GO Community Day events spawn at such a high rate that players significantly increase their odds of catching a shiny. Of course, there are other Pokemon GO Community Day benefits to consider as well, like the chance to learn exclusive moves when evolving Pokemon within a specific time frame. Since Poliwag has two final evolutions, players will be able to get their hands on two different featured attacks for the July 2023 Community Day.
The Pokemon GO July 2023 Community Day will take place on Sunday, July 30 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time. Pokemon GO players that evolve Poliwag into Poliwrath during the event time or up to five hours after it's over can learn Counter. Those that evolve Poliwag into Politoed in the same timeframe will learn the attack Ice Beam. As usual, there will be a paid Special Research story for $1.00, 1/4 egg hatching distances, 2x candy when catching Pokemon, 2x chance for level 31 trainers and above to get Candy XL, Lure Modules that last three hours, Incense that last three hours, the chance to run into Smeargle, an extra Special Trade, and 50% less Stardust cost when making trades.
When is the Pokemon GO July 2023 Community Day Event?
- Sunday, July 30 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time
After the Pokemon GO July 2023 Community Day ends, players can look forward to a special raid event from 5:00pm to 10:00pm local time. During this window, Poliwag evolution Poliwhirl will appear in 4-star raids. Winning these raids will trigger Poliwag spawns for 30 minutes. It should be noted that it's impossible to do these raids using Remote Raid Passes, so those in rural areas or who do not have a large group to play with may be left out.
Those that do participate in the July 2023 Community Day and the subsequent raid event will want to complete as many Field Research tasks as possible. The specially-themed Field Research will give Pokemon GO players the chance to earn the King's Rock evolution item, which is necessary to evolve Poliwag to Poliwhirl and then finally to Politoed.
While some fans may be underwhelmed by Poliwag being the featured Community Day Pokemon, others may be more interested since Poliwag has two different final evolutions to earn. Whatever the case may be, the Pokemon GO July 2023 Community Day kicks off on Sunday, July 30.
