Pokemon GO announced July's Community Day Classic featuring Squirtle, spotlighting the Gen 1 starter for the second time. Pokemon GO often holds several exciting events, giving players the chance to farm items and catch Pokemon that are sometimes available for a limited time.

One of Pokemon GO's most popular events is Community Day, which once a month puts a spotlight on a specific Pokemon, and sometimes has some debut. This year players saw the Chespin evolution line debut in Pokemon GO in its shiny form, and the same happened with the Slowpoke and Fennekin lines. But because it is a limited-time event, sometimes Pokemon GO players may not be able to participate in Community Day and miss the chance to capture the featured Pokemon.

Pokemon GO announced the July Community Day Classic, which will take place on July 9 from 2 pm to 5 pm local time. To celebrate the seventh anniversary of Pokemon GO the event will feature Squirtle, which is Pokemon No. 007. Originally Squirtle had its Community Day in 2018, one of the first editions of the event. Squirtle will appear more frequently in the wild, and lucky players will be able to find the Water-type Pokemon in shiny form. Players who evolve Wartortle into Blastoise during the event, or two hours afterward, will get a Blastoise that knows Charged Attack Hydro Cannon.

Community Day Classic will also feature a Squirtle-themed Field Research. Pokemon GO players who catch a Squirtle will earn an encounter with a Squirtle wearing sunglasses, an homage to the Squirtle Squad from the Pokemon anime. As with other editions of the event, for $1 or local currency equivalent players will be able to purchase a ticket giving access to the Special Research story of the Community Day Classic. Pokemon GO will also have an extended duration for Incense and Lure Modules activated during the event, a shorter distance required to hatch eggs, and surprises for those who take snapshots.

July's Community Day Classic is the first of the new Pokemon GO season that arrived in early June. Named Hidden Gems, the season has brought exciting new features such as new events and Pokemon debuts. The Hidden Gems season is also gearing up to hold the highly anticipated Pokemon GO Fest 2023, Niantic's annual celebration of the game. Recently several new features related to Pokemon GO Fest have been revealed. Other big related news is Diancie's debut during Pokemon GO Fest, finally ending the wait for the mythical Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
