After a few months of stagnant Research Breakthrough Rewards, Pokemon GO players are going to be very excited to hear that a new rotation arrives tomorrow, January 1, 2020. Although the featured Pokemon may not be brand new, some players will still be excited about the exclusive moves that the reward comes equipped with.

With the recent batch of Legendaries out of the way, Pokemon GO trainers will soon be able to earn Research Breakthrough Reward encounters with a the powerful ice-type Lapras. Although Lapras isn't exactly very important to the PvE metagame players may still want to complete the weekly tasks to get a stronger version with these exclusive moves for the future.

The November/December Research Breakthrough Rewards are officially after December 31, which means it's time for players to start cashing in those stamps for another opportunity to encounter the gen 1 Water- and Ice-type Lapras.

From  Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8) , Lapras that know Ice Shard and Ice Beam will be available as Research Breakthrough encounters! Some of you might notice that the last time Lapras with these particular attacks were available to catch was in 2018.

These Water- and Ice-type Pokémon are sure to be contenders for your battle party, so don’t miss this chance to encounter Lapras that know Ice Shard and Ice Beam!

Although Research Breakthroughs are usually popular, it seems like this batch will probably be a little less likely to motivate trainers to keep up those streaks and complete Field Research on a daily basis (it probably won't distract players from collecting the most powerful Unova region Pokemon). To earn the special research breakthrough encounters, players just need to earn 7 stamps, by completing regular field research tasks that are collected from Pokestops.
