A new year is here and Pokemon GO players have the full January 2022 calendar of events to study. This month is packed with tons of exciting opportunities both during and after the current Mountains of Power event. This month features both a regular and a Classic Community Day, so trainers can start preparing for both events early by taking a look ahead at the bonuses and features.
Spheal Community Day will kick off on Sunday, January 16, 2022 in Pokemon GO and provides some extra special bonuses. As usual, there will be some extra bonuses available even for players who aren’t particularly interested in Spheal or its shiny variant. The 3x Catch XP bonus is a pretty popular one since the game’s increased level cap has been live, so players who are still working towards the new max can take advantage of this XP opportunity.
Spheal is a pretty popular Pokemon and Walrein definitely has its uses in the PoGO metagame, so there’s plenty of motivation for PvP and PvE fans to spend some time logged on when the Community Day arrives. As for collectors, the increased shiny rates during Community Day events are always sure to draw them in.

Start and End Times

Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. That changes a bit over the winter months as the time is split between hemispheres rather than time zones. It looks like we're back to one time at this point though.
Special Move
Evolve Sealeo (Spheal’s Evolution) during the event or up to two hours afterward to get a Walrein that knows the Charged Attack Icicle Spear and Fast Attack Powder Snow.
Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within two hours of the event ending) if you want to secure the exclusive move.
Event Features
Spheal will be appearing more frequently in the wild! If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!
There’ll be a special one-time-purchase Community Day Box available for 1,280 PokéCoins, featuring 50 Ultra Balls, five Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs and an Elite Fast TM.
A bundle containing 30 Ultra Balls will be available in the shop at no cost. Be sure to pick them up during the event!
Special Research Storyline
For US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Spheal Community Day–exclusive Special Research story, The Spheal Deal!

Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours
Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
Limited Time Field Research
Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them.
Shiny Variant
Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Shinx while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them this month, as well.
Spheal’s celebration day is just around the corner, so be sure to take care of any preparations to in-game inventory and storage space now.
