When January 2021 arrives, Pokemon GO trainers are going to have a very busy month. It's hard to imagine that there will be even more action than the busy start to the Season of Celebration players had in December, but things are shaping up in that direction. In addition to a New Year's event, a Community Day, and a new raid boss rotation, there are also some exciting Spotlight Hours on the way.

Each month Pokemon GO typically features four Spotlight Hours and January 2021 seems to be following that trend. The month will bring weekly spotlights each Tuesday, starting on January 5 and wrapping up on January 26. Each mini-event will feature one Pokemon with increased spawn rates and a single bonus feature. Think of them like a mini Community Day that only lasts for one hour.

When January arrives, the Spotlight Hours are going to give players a chance to stock up on Lillipup, Drifloon, Shroomish, and Phanpy Candy if they play on all four Tuesday evenings. The usual bonuses are in places as well, which gives players the additional chance to grab some bonus Stardust and extra XP (which will be helpful for the grind to the new level cap) throughout the busy month...

All Pokemon GO January 2021 Spotlight Hours

Tuesday, January 5, 2021: Lillipup will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.

Tuesday, January 12, 2021: Drifloon will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for catching Pokémon.

Tuesday, January 19, 2021: Shroomish will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.

Tuesday, January 26, 2021: Phanpy will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.

That should be everything players need to know to prepare for the upcoming events. Unlike Community Days, don't expect any ticketed Special Research or anything like that during these hourlong events during the first weeks of the new year. Lillipup is likely the most popular of the featured Pokemon for January, though none of them are particularly impactful on the PoGO Battle Raid metagame or PvP scene. Even with that being the case, the other bonuses (especially the Stardust) are likely still enough to make these events popular.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the early days of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
