Pokemon GO's 8th Anniversary Event is giving players a chance to catch Party Hat Squirtle and fans are wondering how they can get a shiny variant of the Pokemon. Costume Pokemon are only available via events, so it is a golden opportunity for players looking to get a special Squirtle.

While Party Hat Squirtle will be readily available during the Pokemon GO 8th Anniversary event, the shiny rates remain the same. Since Party Hat Squirtle is a regular Pokemon, the odds stand at about 1 in 500. Here is how to get a shiny Party Hat Squirtle in Pokemon GO.

How To Get Shiny Party Hat Squirtle

Pokemon GO 8th Anniversary Party event

There are a number of ways through which players can get shiny Party Hat Squirtle. As with other costume variants, players will only be able to get the Pokemon during the special Anniversary event.

Through Timed Research

There are three kinds of research players can participate in as part of the 8th Anniversary Event. While the paid Timed Research and Masterwork Research required tickets, there is a free Timed Research as well. Thankfully, players can get a Party Hat Squirtle from the free Timed Research itself, so if players are not willing to spend money on the event, they should simply take part in that. Party Hat Squirtle is the reward for the third task in the first step of the Timed Research. As part of the task, players will need to spin 8 PokeStops. This will take players a bit of time for players living in areas where there are not a lot of PokeStops, but they should be able to complete a number of other tasks along the way as well, such as catching Pokemon or earning XP. Once players complete it, they will be able to get a Party Hat Squirtle, and there is a chance that it can be shiny.

Through 1-Star Raids

Party Hat Squirtle will also be available in 1-Star Raids, so players can simply catch it via that as well. Since Squirtle is a Water-type players can use Electric or Grass-type Pokemon to take it down. 1-Star Raids are usually quite easy, so it shouldn't take long for players to take it down. It might take a while before players are able to find a Party Hat Squirtle raid, but unlike the Timed Research, this is something players can attempt multiple times which makes it easier for them to get a shiny variant.

In The Wild

Last but not least, Party Hat Squirtle can also be found in the wild. The event boosts the spawn rate of Party Hat Squirtle, so players have a better chance of getting a shiny one as well. To improve their chances even further, players can use items such as Incense and Lure Modules. Apart from the regular Lure Module, players can also use Glacial and Rainy Lure Modules to improve their odds of catching Party Hat Squirtle, as these special Lure Modules are only focused on certain types instead of boosting all Pokemon in general.
