For Pokemon GO's 7th anniversary, Niantic is hosting a special in-game event, and during the event, players can head to the shop to purchase a ticket to access the All-in-One #151 Masterwork Research. The research will not expire once someone purchases it, but it will take most players quite some time to complete the tasks, especially one in the first step. The main draw behind the Masterwork Research is to get to the second to last step, which rewards trainers with a Shiny Mew encounter.

The task in the first step that might give people issues is the one to collect a Platinum Kanto Medal. To earn this medal, trainers will need to catch every single Pokemon from the Kanto Pokedex, consisting of 151 monsters, including legendaries like Mewtwo, Articuno, and Zapdos. This guide, in particular, will walk players through how to catch Kangaskhan, one of the rarer Pokemon in the collection.

How to Get Kangaskhan in Pokemon GO (2023)

top 15 most memorable gaming moms

As of the time of writing, Kangaskan can be found as a wild encounter, but only in Australia. Indeed, the Normal-type Parent Pokemon is one of the four region-exclusive Kanto Pokemon, joining the likes of Farfetch'd, Tauros, and Mr. Mime. Farfetch'd is only available in eastern Asia; Tauros is in North America; and Mr. Mime is located in parts of Europe.

According to Serebii, the last time players outside of Australia had a chance to obtain Kangaskhan was during a raid event in the spring of 2022, and then the Pokemon was able to be found in eggs in early 2021. There's no telling when Kangaskan will appear next, so players must keep tuned to future Pokemon GO events.

The only other option players have right now that live outside of Australia is to trade with a buddy. However, trading in Pokemon GO is done locally, meaning that trainers can't exchange Pokemon with someone far away from them. This means players will have to know someone living near them that's also been to Australia, unfortunately.

To initiate a trade in Pokemon GO, follow these directions:

  • At the map screen, go to your profile.
  • Tab Friends and open the Friend List.
  • Choose the friend to trade with.
  • Tap on the Trade button.
  • Stardust will need to be spent. If the trade is considered to be 'special,' it'll cost even more Stardust.
  • A Special Trade is a Pokemon that's not already in the players' Pokedex, a Legendary Pokemon, a Shiny Pokemon, an Ultra Beast, or Pokemon with forms not in your Pokedex.
