The immensly popular mobile game Pokemon GO is continually evolving, no more so than in the past couple of years where the game had to go up against a global pandemic which kept many indoors. While developer Niantic managed to overcome the difficulties with people not getting out and walking around, Pokemon GO has also continued to add new content to entice players to continue logging in day after day.

New seasonal quests are constantly arriving, with the most recent focusing on the Pokemon Sun and Moon region of Alola. During this phase, Pokemon GO added all sorts of new creatures into the game including the starter pokemon and even the island guardians Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Fini. With Season of Alola coming to an end on June 1, players have begun the Season of GO, which has introduced new biome-specific spawns and tons of upcoming events.

The first of these special Pokemon GO events is Adventure Week 2022 which is currently active until June 12. While also offering several bonuses like double XP for spinning PokeStops and timed research quests, the game is also introducing the gen 6 pokemon, Tyrunt and Amaura. Here's everything Pokemon GO players need to know about the Rock Dragon, Tyrunt.

How to Catch Tyrunt

During Adventure Week 2022, Tyrunt will be widely available, giving players their best chance to catch the Pokemon. It's highly likely that the Pokemon GO spawn rates will decrease significantly once Adventure Week comes to an end, so players should make sure to grab one before June 12. Thankfully, there are a handful of ways to do this:

  • Spawns - During Adventure Week, Tyrunt will be spawning more often in the wild during set times such as the Ultra Unlock Research Day from 11am-3pm on June 12.
  • Field Research - Certain Research Tasks active during Adventure Week 2022 will feature Tyrunt as a reward. This includes "Walk 5km" and "Spin 25 PokéStops or Gyms."
  • Eggs - 7km eggs collected during Adventure Week 2022 will have a chance to hatch Tyrunt. Please note that hatching 7km eggs collected prior to June 7 do not count, thjey have to be collected/earned between June 7-12.
  • Challenge Reward - During Adventure Week 2022, players will have a collection of new challenges to complete. For a Tyrunt encounter, players should complete the "Spin 50 PokeStops or Gyms" challenge.

Ultimately, the most sure fire way to earn a Tyrunt would be during the Ultra Unlock Research Day on June 12. Field Research and hatching eggs don't guarantee a Tyrunt encounter as players could instead find an Amaura instead. While the "Spin 50 PokeStops or Gyms" challenge does offer a guaranteed Tyrunt encounter, the requirements will likely take many players a while to overcome, especially those located in more rural areas that don't have a ton of PokeStops or Gyms available.

How to Evolve Tyrunt into Tyrantrum

With a Tyrunt captured, its now time to work towards its more powerful and evolved version called Tyrantrum. In this case, players will need to accumulate 50 Tyrunt candy to trigger the evolution. Players should use Pinap Berries to double the candy earned whenever attempting to catch Tyrunt, using any spare Rare Candies, or set Tyrunt as the Buddy Pokemon so it can accumulate additional Candy after a set amount of distance has been walked.

It's also worth noting that the Tyrunt evolution can only be done during the day. Also, for those who are curious, Tyrunt and Tyrantrum do not have shiny variants at this point in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS devices.
