Zygarde's form can be changed by using Zygarde Cells, which are collectible items that will be stored in the Zygarde Cube acquired from completing step three of the special research tasks. Collecting 50 Zygarde Cells will allow the player to transform Zygarde into its 50% and complete form.

How To Find Zygarde Cells in Pokemon GO

Creating Routes in Pokemon GO

The key to finding Zygarde Cells is the new Routes feature, introduced in the latest update. Players can use other players' created Routes by checking the closest ones using the Nearby function. However, to create Routes, players will need to use a PokeStop or Gym. As of the time of writing, only a select number of people can create Routes. The functionality is rolling out to players worldwide.

Once players are walking on a Route, they have a chance of finding Zygarde Cells. Just look for the shiny yellow/greenish icons on the map. Just make you have access to the Zygarde Cube first, or else the Cells cannot be collected. Niantic might add more methods for collecting Zygarde Cells in the future, but this is the only way for now. Here's a list of the other bonuses players acquire by checking out the Routes mechanic:

  • Follow a Route to its end for the first time to earn a new Route Badge.
  • Pokemon will be more attracted to Incense when exploring a Route for the first time.
  • Earn Buddy Candy more quickly.
  • Earn an XP bonus for the first Route you complete each day. After completing Routes for seven days, you’ll receive an increased XP bonus.
  • Earn a Buddy Heart when you complete a Route while adventuring with your buddy.
