Players have been taking part in Team Go Rocket Battles in Pokemon GO, but there is something new that players can partake in that involves Shadow Shards and Purified Gems. They are both related to the Go Rocket Battles and Rising Shadows Raids.

How To Get Shadow Shards in Pokemon GO
Shadow Shards will be rewarded to players after they defeat Team Go Rocket, it doesn't matter who it is as long as they are on the team. To give a better idea, below are examples of how many Shadow Shards players will receive per the different battles:
- GO Rocket Grunts: will reward 1 Shadow Shard with each encounter.
- Leaders: this will reward 2 Shadow Shards for each encounter.
- Giovanni: will reward 4 Shadow Shards for each encounter.
- Shadow Raids will reward up to 5 Shadow Shards each encounter.

How To Get Purified Gems in Pokemon GO
Players will have to use a total of four Shadow Shards to get a Purified Gem. However, a Shard Refiner will have to be used in order to use those four Shadow Shards to make the Purified Gem.
How To Use Shard Refiner
Now, the Shard Refiner is a machine in Pokemon GO that turns Shadow Shards into Purified Gems. This isn't really an item that players will even be using, though, or worrying about collecting. Once four Shadow Shards have been collected, players will be approached by Professor Willow in-game. He will then give players the prompt to use the Shard Refiner and turn them into a Purified Gem for players to use.
How To Use Purified Gems
Players will only be able to carry up to 10 Purified Gems at one time, but once a player has received their first gem, they will be able to use it in Shadow Raid Battles, but only when the Raid Boss is enraged during battle. After using a Purified Gem, it will then subdue the Shadow Raid Boss, making them a lot easier to defeat.
Something else to note is this effect will stack if other Trainers in the Shadow Raid Battle also use Purified Gems as well. Remember that each Trainer can only use up to 5 Purified Gems in a Shadow Raid Battle.
