There are a handful of creatures in Pokemon GO that require an Unova Stone to evolve. Chandelure will end up requiring two, one for each evolutionary stage. Eelektross is another hot commodity that needs one before it can be achieved.
Even if players don't have these pre-evolved Pokemon yet, it's wise to have a few on hand and stock them up so the evolution process can start immediately. Getting even one in Pokemon GO takes a little luck and some time, so it's best to start farming them now.

While that is one way to handle things, many players who eagerly need an Unova Stone for an evolution likely won't be content to just wait around and hope for the best. There is another tactic that will reward persistent players with an opportunity to randomly win an Unova Stone. These two methods have been broken down into individual sections so that readers can understand the ways they can progress.
How To Get Unova Stones
There are two methods for players to try and snag an Unova Stone. Players who are trying to catch the Pokemon required for the 'Let's Go' challenge will find they can hunt for them and get these challenges done at the same time.
Field Research Breakthroughs
There is currently no guaranteed way to get an Unova Stone, but this strategy has the highest chance to yield one and also can be regularly scheduled. By completing seven Field Research Tasks (each one must be done on a different day), gamers will get stamps for a Research Breakthrough. This can be a tough process, but it's not as difficult as finding a Mew while discovering the wilds.
That reward has a moderate chance to reward an Unova Stone. Luckily, even if players don't get one on their first few tries, this is a great way to get special Pokemon types, so it won't be an entire waste of time. It can also prepare players for the new raid battle features set to come out soon.
Timed Research Events
The Field Research Breakthroughs can't be consistently recommended because of their regularity. However, for players who are a bit lucky, dedicated, and desperate for an Unova Stone, they can try to hunt down limited-time events and complete the Timed Research. They can do this while building up a team for the Psychic Cup.
Much like the rewards for Field Research Breakthroughs, this has only a chance to get an Unova Stone, so don't be surprised when one doesn't pop up. Although, unlike the first strategy, which can only be completed after a week, a serious gamer can hunt for these events, find them, and maximize their chances to get an Unova Stone as soon as possible instead of waiting around. If nothing else, the rewards can be useful for the upcoming overhauled crafting system.
