In Pokemon GO, there are sometimes rare variants of Pokemon released wearing special outfits or accessories, commonly referred to as outfit Pokemon (or costumed Pokemon). Commonly, these are limited-time specimens that are obtainable through various in-game events.

Among the events in Pokemon GO that have presented the opportunity to obtain outfit Pokemon, Slumbering Sands is an opportunity for Trainers to get their hands on not only a charming variant of Slakoth and its evolutions wearing a visor, but also a special Snorlax wearing a nightcap. If you're wondering how you can ensure you acquire this Nightcap Snorlax, then you can find all the information you'll need outlined in the guide below.

How To Get Nightcap Snorlax In Pokemon GO (& Can it Be Shiny?)

Nightcap Snorlax is being made available in Pokemon GO as part of the Slumbering Sands event, which is set to take place between the dates of June 7, 2024, and June 12, 2024. During this time, several featured Pokemon, including the Slakoth line dressed up in sun visors, will appear more frequently in the wild. In addition to this, there will also be several event bonuses, Pokestop showcases, Field Research Tasks, Collection Challenges, and more.

However, unlike the Visor Slakoth evolution line (featured above), Nightcap Snorlax can not be encountered in the wild. Instead, this Pokemon will be restricted to Trainers who have connected a Pokemon GO Plus. Players who have successfully connected this device with their Pokemon GO account will gain access to a Timed Research that will result in rewards of Stardust and encounters with the following Pokemon upon completion:

  • Nightcap Snorlax
  • Visor Slakoth
  • Komala

With the arrival of this special Snorlax variant, many players will be eager to know if this Pokemon is also obtainable as a shiny. Luckily, for those who are hoping to get a shiny Nightcap Snorlax, this is very much possible, as a shiny variant of this outfit Pokemon exists in the game.

However, the odds of obtaining it are rather low. While the base shiny rate for this Pokemon isn't lowered at all, the fact that Trainers will only secure one encounter with this Pokemon leaves little hope for meeting the hefty shiny odds for this specimen in particular. In addition to Nightcap Snorlax, the Visor Slakoth, Visor Vigoroth, and Visor Slaking Pokemon will also be obtainable as shinies, with slightly better chances at success, due to Visor Slakoth being available from multiple sources during Slumbering Sands.
