Pokemon GO developer Niantic has announced details for its Heading to Hoenn Mega Raid Day Event, in which it'll add the Mega Evolution of Gen 3's starters to the game. Pokemon GO has a busy December ahead of it, and this event fits in perfectly as just another big hype-builder for the end of the year.

For example, new Pokemon GO Research Breakthrough Rewards include Galarian Mr. Mime, Delibird, Bagon, Deino, Frufou, and Goomy, while Virizion, Terrakion, Cobalion, and Kyurem will rotate in raids throughout the month. Other events this month include a Mythic Blade Event (December 6 - December 11), Elite Raids (December 10), Keldeo Special Research (December 10 and 11), The Winter Holiday (two-part event running from December 15 to December 31), Hisuian Avalugg Raid Day (December 24), and the Winder Wonderland Event (December 24 and 25).

Heading to Hoenn Mega Raid Day Event is set to take place this Saturday, December 3, from 2pm to 5pm local time. During this event, players will be able to find and redeem five Raid Passes per day by spinning Gym Photo Discs and will have an increased chance of encountering shiny versions of Sceptile, Blaziken, and Shiny Swampert. Each caught Pokemon will also know a special Charged Attack: Sceptile will know Frenzy Plant, Blaziken will know Blast Burn, and Swampert will know Hydro Cannon.

These Pokemon will not be available in Pokemon GO again until the Hoenn Tour begins, so fans eager to utilize these Mega Evolutions should be sure to set some time aside and take part in this event. Not to mention, the various perks like the shiny chance are a nice touch to encourage further engagement in the event. And there's plenty on the horizon beyond it. It's nice to see Pokemon GO so active this December, as it makes it easier for players who are traveling for the holidays to take place something. That said, featuring two events—Hisiuian Avalugg Raid Day and the Winter Wonderland Event—on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day may not be the wisest decision, as many fans will be spending those days with family.

Still, Pokemon GO is a game that thrives by constantly giving players new content to engage with. Going from the Cosmog/Cosmoem/Solgaleo/Lunala event, everything else going on, and straight into this flurry of events shows just how dedicated Niantic is to the beloved AR title.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS in select regions.
