A new Pokemon GO event is here and, as suspected, Team GO Rocket is back for another attempted takeover. In addition to the mysterious new Eggs that are being introduced as a part of the ongoing events, PoGO trainers are also going to have the opportunity to face off against all of the Team GO Rocket bosses once again... Including Giovanni.

As always, the Team GO Rocket bosses bring quite a challenge for fans of the mobile AR experience. This time around Giovanni has a slightly different lineup that may require even the most experienced Pokemon GO battle fans to reevaluate their saved roster and consider whether they should switch things up.

Giovanni will kick off the fight with Persian, no surprise there, but after that point things get a little tougher. The second spot has three possible Pokemon (Kangaskhan or Nidoking or Garchomp), so it's very likely players may have to prepare for all the options and then take a gamble on their first attempt. Failing and then jumping right back in for a rematch with the correct counters is a totally viable strategy, so just be sure to get through Persian on the first attempt and learn what he has in slot number two.

Giovanni's October Roster

Persian (like always)

Kangaskhan or Nidoking or Garchomp

Mewtwo

Best Counter for Persian

Melmetal - Thunder Shock/Thunderbolt or Super Power

Muk (Alola) - Bite/Acid Spray

With that lineup of Pokemon, players should have no problems countering any configuration of challengers that Giovanni shows up to the fight with. There are obviously lots of other Pokemon that can work as substitutes for this ideal roster, but most players shouldn't have much trouble assembling the team recommended above. All of those Pokemon are very relevant to the current Pokemon GO PvE and PvP metagame, so it's worth investing in them beyond this fight anyway.

For now, Pokemon GO trainers should be able to head out into the world (or play from home) and continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
