One of the most special ways Pokemon GOÂ has affected the Pokemon series as a whole was back in September 2018. This was when the Pokemon Meltan was both teased and revealed to players all around the world, being one of the few Pokemon to premiere in a non-mainline game. Players who don't have this Pokemon yet are still able to catch one for themselves in-game.
Meltan is a pure Steel-type Pokemon that cannot normally be found as an overworld encounter in Pokemon GO. Its typing makes it weak to Fire, Ground, and Fighting-type moves while resisting damage from Dragon, Ice, Psychic, Normal, Grass, Steel, Bug, Rock, Flying, Fairy, and Poison-type moves. If players are able to collect 400 Meltan candies, Meltan can evolve into Melmetal.
There are currently two methods that players can use in order to obtain Meltan. One requires players to own a copy of either Pokemon: Let's GO Eevee or Pokemon: Let's GO Pikachu while the other is accessible for all Pokemon GOÂ players. Those who use one method are still able to use the other in other to catch multiple Meltan.
Method One - Let's Go, Meltan Special Research Tasks
There are many different special research tasks that players can go through in Pokemon GO, but Let's GO, Meltan is the one that will let players catch Meltan. It has nine steps with three tasks in each step except for the last one.
With this series of special research tasks requiring a lot from players such as catching very specific Pokemon and types, this research can take a lot of time to complete. However, it also provides many different helpful items that can assist players outside of the hunt for Meltan.
Once players complete step eight, they will get an encounter with Meltan as a reward. After catching it, players will additionally gain plenty of Stardust, XP, a Super Incubator, and five pieces of Meltan candies.
Method Two - The Mystery Box
As previously mentioned, players can only use this method if players own any of the Pokemon Let's GO games. The first step of this method is to transfer a Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Let's GO. By doing so, players will get a Mystery Box. It will remain in players' inventories until used.
If players open the box, it will begin to rapidly spawn Meltan around the player in Pokemon GO for 30 minutes. After the time is up, it will close again and can only be opened once per day. Once seven days are up, the box will disappear and players will need to transfer another Pokemon in order to get a new one.
