Although it's a little too cold to go outside and play Pokemon GO in some regions over the winter, Niantic is doing everything possible to keep players engaged in the game over these chilly months. The latest push, which shortly follows some controversial EX Raid updates, adds a new batch of Gen-3 monsters to hunt down.

Pokemon GO's gradual rollout of Gen-3 has been a great way to keep players coming back for more of the game every month. If all of the new Pokemon had arrived at once, the hardcore players likely would have hunted them all down within the first few weeks. This approach allows Niantic to pull players back into the game month after month, during a season when the game is usually losing players.

The next addition begins tomorrow and will bring a swarm of Dragon- and Flying-Type Pokemon into the game...

"In celebration, Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region will take over wild encounters until February 13. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to catch powerful Pokémon such as Salamence, Altaria, Metagross, and more!"

The limited time wild encounters event should give players a good chance to roundup a bunch of the Gen-3 Pokemon that may have alluded them so far. If your Pokedex is lacking, be sure to get out there on the 13th and do what you can to fill in those Gen-3 spots.

Good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
