Pokemon GO players have been spending all of August enjoying an exciting series of Ultra Reward bonuses, but the party is almost ready to come to an end. With the last day of Unova Week just around the corner, there isn't a ton of time left to collect the featured Unova Pokemon from spawns, eggs, and Battle Raids.

Thanks to the Unova Week bonuses, the current Battle Raid boss list is full of exciting Unova region pokemon who might be new Pokedex entries for a lot of players. Many of the lower tier bosses can easily be solo'd or taken down by two or three players without much of a challenge, but when Pokemon GO players get up to the four-star Battle Raids they will need to carefully plan their counters if they don't want to waste a Battle Raid pass.

One of the most exciting Pokemon featured at the four-star level is Garbodor. This pre Poison-type represents both a new Pokedex entry for many players, but also the possibility of a new Poison option for the PvP and PvE metagame. Although Garbador may not frequently be used in PvE Raids, it seems likely that it will become a popular choice for PvP matchups in the coming months. With that in mind, many players are on the prowl to find one that is as close to perfect as possible.

In order to take down the pure Poison-type players will take to take advantage of its weaknesses to Psychic- and Ground-types. Also keep in mind that Garbodor is strong against Fairy- and Grass-types, so those should stay on the sideline during this particular battle. Like most tier 4 raids, players should try to have at least three players present to keep the odds in their favor. Technically the Raid can be completed with just two people, but that requires a bit more strategy, Best Friend status, and the right weather boosts.

Pokemon GO Raids

Best Garbodor Counter

Mewtwo - Confusion/Psystrike

Other Great Garbodor Counters

Alakazam - Confusion/Psychic

Espeon - Confusion/Psychic

Latios - Zen Headbutt/Psychic

Azelf - Confusion/Future Sight

Metagross - Zen Headbutt/Psychic

Luckily most of these counters have already been popular choices for previous Battle Raids, so many trainers likely already have a strong roster powered up and ready to go. It's also helpful that, aside from Mewtwo, most of these counters are very easy to obtain and players should lots of options to select from.

Once the new event arrives this weekend, the festivities should give trainers a good reason to continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
