Niantic has confirmed that the legendary Necrozma along with its Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma forms will debut in Pokemon GO during the Go Fest 2024 events. The Pokemon Go Fest events are celebrations of Pokemon GO and often include the introduction of the rarest and most powerful Pokemon from the games.

First introduced in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon, Necrozma is a unique Pokemon who can merge with the Legendary Pokemon Solgaleo or Lunala creating either Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma. Niantic has been teasing the release of the latest legendary in Pokemon GO but has now confirmed when players can expect to add it to their Pokedex.

A Pokemon GO leaker alleges that a Pokemon Sword and Shield feature could be seeing a return in the mobile title soon, though there are some concerns.

Necrozma will debut in five-star raids starting with the in-person Pokemon Go Fest events where ticket holders can also encounter its shiny form. If players cannot attend the in-person events in Japan, Spain, and New York City, Necrozma will also be available during the Global Go Fest event scheduled for July 13-14. Once players have caught Necrozma, it can be fused with either Solgaleo or Lunala by using a mixture of Candy and a new type of item known as Fusion Energy.

Fusion Energy comes in two forms: Solar Fusion and Luna Fusion. By defeating Dusk Mane Necrozma in raids, players will earn Solar Fusion, and if Dawn Wings Necrozma is bested, players will be rewarded with Luna Fusion Energy. When a player has 1000 Solar Fusion or Luna Fusion Energy, they can spend 30 Cosmog Candy and 30 Necrozma Candy to create the fused Pokemon. If a player chooses to revert Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma to their original states, there is no additional Candy or Fusion Energy cost.

Requirements to Fuse Necrozma With Solgaleo and Lunala in Pokemon GO

  • Fuse Necrozma with Solgaleo to unlock Dusk Mane Necrozma Form
    • 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy
    • 30 Necrozma Candy
    • 30 Cosmog Candy
    • Dusk Mane Necrozma will know the Charged Attack Sunsteel Strike.

  • Fuse Necrozma with Lunala to unlock Dawn Wings Necrozma Form
    • 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy
    • 30 Necrozma Candy
    • 30 Cosmog Candy
    • Dawn Wings Necrozma will know the Charged Attack Moongeist Beam.

Using Fusion Energy with Necrozma may seem similar to the Mega Evolution mechanic in Pokemon GO, however, there are key differences. When fused, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma will gain a boost to their stats and CP levels. Unlike Mega Evolution, each monster will receive a new Charged Attack, and there is no time limit to how long the fusion lasts.

The introduction of Necrozma will no doubt excite players as they gear up for this year’s Go Fest. However, it is still not known if trainers will have to use Cosmog Candy and Necrozma Candy every time they fuse. Another question that has yet to be addressed is if a shiny Solgaleo/Lunala is needed to fuse with a shiny Necrozma. With Pokemon GOFest 2024 events due to kick off in Japan on May 30, players won’t have to wait long to find out the answer to these questions.
