Pokemon GO players may not be flying to a destination city for a massive in-person event this summer, but that doesn't mean that Pokemon GO Fest is cancelled. Niantic has massive plans for the annual event and plans to keep players all around the globe engaged with a ton of activities for two days straight. In a similar fashion to previous Pokemon GO Fest annual events, that is going to include the opportunity to catch some very special Pokemon.

During GO Fest 2020, there will obviously be plenty of increased spawn rates and some special Pokemon appearing in areas where they usually couldn't be found. That is definitely exciting, but Pokemon GO completionists and metagamers may be thinking ahead to wonder what new and powerful Pokemon could be added to the game during the event...

During a recent Niantic press event that Game ZXC attended, the Pokemon GO team confirmed that Pokemon GO Fest 2020 would include the release of a Mythical Pokemon who would be new to PoGO. This is very exciting news and will definitely give players something to look forward to throughout the event, aside from all the other awesome bonuses and rewards.

At this point, Niantic did not confirm whether the Mythical Pokemon would be spawning during the event or if it would be part of an encounter reward for a particular set of challenges or Special Research. If past events are any indication, it seems incredibly likely that the Mythical Pokemon encounter will be the culminating reward for a lengthly Special Research storyline that runs through the event for ticket holders. More details about that are sure to arrive in the coming weeks before the event takes place around the globe on July 25 and July 26.
