Ever since EX Raids were first introduced to Pokemon GO, many fans have expressed frustration with the system. For the uninitiated, EX Raids are special raids with ultra rare Pokemon, like Mewtwo, which players can only participate in if they receive a special EX Raid invite pass. While it may sound like an interesting idea on paper, the EX Raid system has some notable flaws, and many times, there simply aren't enough players participating for them to be viable.

Reddit user and Pokemon GO player SenseiEntei expressed his disappointment with a recent EX Raid experience, where he was the only one that showed up to battle Mewtwo. SenseiEntei waited until there was just 10 minutes left on the clock before he decided to battle the legendary beast, even though he knew there would be no chance he could win the fight. Ultimately, SenseiEntei participating in the EX Raid was a waste of his time since it seems no other players received invites, or at least, they didn't want to participate.

It's possible this was due to the EX Raid invite bug that has been plaguing the game, where only players that participated in past EX Raids would receive a raid pass. However, another explanation is that enough people in SenseiEntei's area have become frustrated with the EX Raid system and have given up on it altogether.

Pokemon GO Guide: How to Catch Rare Pokemon - Mewtwo battling Pikachu

Even before the invite bug was an issue, many players were dissatisfied with the EX Raid system in Pokemon GO. Participating in more challenging raids, like legendary raids, already required a ridiculous amount of organization and dumb luck, so making raid participation even more difficult was a puzzling move on Niantic's part. EX Raid passes are sent out to random players that had participated in a raid in that gym before, and they just assume those invited players are available at the designated time to fight Mewtwo, which shrinks the potential player pool rather significantly.

It's clear by players' ongoing frustration with EX Raids that they are an area Niantic needs to address in future updates. Many would like to see the EX Raid system scrapped altogether, especially since legendary raids are already rather difficult, and catching Pokemon from even the easiest raids often boils down to pure luck. Whether or not Niantic addresses these concerns remains to be seen, but for the sake of the Pokemon GO community, let's hope Niantic is listening.
