2022 has been a busy year for Pokemon GO with a variety of new Pokemon and new events featured in the massively popular mobile game. March saw the long-awaited introduction of Pokemon's seventh generation creatures to the game with the "Season of Alola" adding several new Pokemon. This summer has also seen the return of in-person events for the first time in three years as the annual "Pokemon GO Fest" held festivities in Berlin, Seattle, and Sapporo. Now, a new discovery from dataminers suggests that the Alolan Legendaries may be arriving soon.

A recent batch of discoveries within the mobile game's files featured several upcoming updates for Pokemon GO. A quote in the text lines of Professor Willow's "A Radiant Reunion" special research has caught the eye of fans, heavily implying that Gen 7 Legendaries, Solgaleo and Lunala, may be coming soon. Dr. Willow mentions being surrounded by "a protective presence" that is described as being "warm as the sun and calm as the moon." Given Pokemon GO's heavy focus on Alola throughout 2022, the line likely references the sun and moon-themed Legendaries.

Alongside the dialogue, dataminers were also able to discover several potential new features within the game's files. Multiple files are found in relation to Pokemon GO's camera feature with both a tutorial for taking AR photos with Pokemon, as well as a way to share photos included. Several files were also found mentioning quality-of-life changes coming to Pokemon GO's GO Battle League, suggesting players may soon be able to see a schedule for future seasons of the competitive game mode.

The introduction of Solgaleo and Lunala would come as Pokemon's seventh generation has already seen several Mythical Pokemon from the Sun and Moon era added to GO. Pokemon GO has already welcomed multiple members of Pokemon Sun and Moon's Ultra Beasts to the game, with the most recent coming during GO Fest's live events. A recent teaser from Pokemon GO also suggests more Ultra Beasts may be added to the game in the near future. Pokemon GO has so far featured four out of the eleven total Ultra Beasts since Alola's introduction in March.

Pokemon GO has brought plenty of excitement throughout the summer as the mobile game has returned to live events in a big way. Along with the previously mentioned return of GO Fest's in-person events, Pokemon GO joined the Pokemon World Championships for the first time in 2022. Rumors have also swirled since the announcement of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that GO may welcome some of the new games' regional variants. Solgaleo and Lunala will look to be an exciting addition for fans of Pokemon GO when they are officially revealed.

Pokemon GO is available now for mobile devices.
