Highlights

  • Pokemon GO's October Community Day featuring Timburr may not be as appealing as past months due to its less-thematic choice and underwhelming shiny variants.
  • Compared to September's Community Day which featured desirable shiny variants, Timburr's shiny variant is mediocre and may not attract as many players.
  • However, players should not dismiss October entirely as there are other exciting events like the Harvest Festival and Halloween Event that may offer more desirable shinies and the potential addition of new Pokemon.

Pokemon GO has been on a roll lately with exciting new content updates and events like the introduction of Gen 9 critters from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, September's Psychic Spectacular Event, and a fantastic September Community Day featuring Grubbin. Players were treated to a solid offering of desirable mons along with their coveted shiny variants all month long thanks to these events. However, despite a line-up of events for October 2023 that includes the Harvest Festival Event and the Halloween Event, one October event might have a hard time stacking up with September's Pokemon GO events.

The hit mobile game has given players plenty of reasons to dive back in despite a decline in player count since its massive 2016 release. Part of the draw that keeps players coming back to catch more critters is the frequent events that offer an increased chance to find a rare shiny variant of certain creatures in Pokemon GO. Each month, Pokemon GO highlights a particular mon that becomes the focus of that month's Community Day event and gives it an increased spawn rate and shiny chance during the events runtime, but October's Community Day for Pokemon GO might not be as enticing as past months.

Pokemon GO's October Community Day Spotlight on Timburr Doesn't Compare to September's Event

The Gen 5 Fighting type Timburr has been confirmed to be the spotlight critter for October 2023's Community Day in Pokemon GO. While there are sure to be some fans of this critter excited by the announcement, it feels like there could have been a more thematically appropriate mon for the month of October, as Timburr doesn't exactly conjure autumn imagery like some critters do. It's likely that Pokemon GO is saving certain mons to be featured in the Harvest Festival and Halloween Events which could explain part of the reason why Timburr was chosen for October's Community Day.

Aside from the odd thematic choice, what makes Timburr an underwhelming Community Day mon is the less-than-appealing shiny variants for it and its evolutions. Timburr and its evolutions Gurdurr and Conkeldurr already have somewhat controversial designs, and these designs aren't enhanced by their shiny variants. Timburr and Gurdurr change from a tan and pink color palette to a mustard and peach coloring, and Conkeldurr gains a dusty rose and peach coloring, neither of which are very appealing color palettes, nor are they significantly different from their original colors.

Compared to September's Community Day and Community Day Classic, October's event is a lot less exciting from a shiny collector's standpoint. September's Community Day Classic featured Charmander who evolves into one of the best shinies in the series in Charizard, and the stars of September's Pokemon GO Community Day, Grubbin and its evolutions, also have some fantastic shinies. While shiny hunters missing Timburr from their collection might be looking forward to the opportunity to find one next month, the mediocre shiny variant for Timburr likely won't be all that enticing for other Pokemon GO players to check out October's Community Day.

The good news is that October still has other events that will likely be worth Pokemon GO players' time and offer more desirable shinies than Timburr and its evolutions. While not much information is known about the Harvest Festival or Halloween Events yet, October has historically been a great month for fans of Ghost and Dark types who get a spotlight during these events, and the potential for new Gen 9 Pokemon like Greavard and Houndstone to be added during this event is quite likely. As such, Pokemon GO players shouldn't write off October entirely simply because the Community Day for this month doesn't feature as exciting of a shiny compared to past months.
