Community Day has been a staple of the Pokemon GO experience for years now, but Niantic is still finding ways to switch things up and keep the monthly rotation of events new and exciting. The the first time ever, the January 2022 calendar of events includes both the regular Community Day offering and a second Community Day Classic.

Community Day Classic seems like it will operate a lot like a regular Community Day, except it will bring back a previously featured Pokemon to get the spotlight once again. The new tradition kicks off with Bulbasaur and offers players a three hour window later this month to find and catch the Pokemon and enjoy other bonuses in Pokemon GO.

Bulbasaur’s Community Day Classic will kick off on Saturday, January 22 in the mobile app. Like a regular Community Day event, there will be some extra bonuses available even for players who aren’t particularly interested in Bulbasaur or its shiny variant. Just like the other January CD, players grinding towards the new max level can pick up 3x XP during this event.

The Gen 1 Grass-type starter is a pretty popular Pokemon and its evolutions still have some uses in the PoGO metagame, so there’s plenty of motivation for PvP and PvE fans to spend some time logged on when the Community Day Classic arrives.

Start and End Times

From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time

Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. That changes a bit over the winter months as the time is split between hemispheres rather than time zones. It looks like we're back to one time at this point though.

Special Move

Evolve Ivysaur (Bulbasaur’s Evolution) during the event or up to two hours afterward to get a Venusaur that knows the Charged Attack Frenzy Plant.

Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within two hours of the event ending) if you want to secure the exclusive move.

Event Features

  • Bulbasaur will be appearing more frequently in the wild!
  • If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!
  • There’ll be a special one-time-purchase Community Day Box available for 1,280 PokéCoins, featuring 50 Ultra Balls, five Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs and an Elite Fast TM.
  • A bundle containing 30 Ultra Balls will be available in the shop at no cost. Be sure to pick them up during the event!

Special Research Storyline

For US $1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Bulbasaur Community Day Classic–exclusive Special Research story: Bulbasaur Community Day Classic.

Bonuses

  • 3× Catch XP
  • Incense activated during the event will last for three hours
  • Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours
  • Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!

Limited Time Field Research

Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them.

Shiny Variant

Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Bulbasaur while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them this month, as well.

Bulbasaur’s big celebration day is just a couple of weeks away, so be sure to take care of any preparations to in-game inventory and storage space now. Players should learn much more about exact details of other activities throughout the early days of the Season of Heritage. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
