A dedicated Pokemon GO player has completed the difficult task of achieving Best Friend status for all their Pokemon. As in other games in the series, the most common way for Pokemon GO players to interact with Pokemon is by catching them and assembling teams to battle. But Niantic offers other ways for players to deepen their bond with Pokemon while playing Pokemon GO.
The Buddy Pokemon mechanic is one of these alternative forms of interaction to battles. With it, the Pokemon GO player can choose a critter from their collection to walk with their avatar on the game map. When the Pokemon GO player and their Buddy Pokemon walk certain distances together, the trainer is rewarded with candy. If the Pokemon belongs to an evolutionary line with Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion, the player can earn Mega/Primal Energy as well. The Pokemon GO player shared images of their collection with powerful monsters such as Zygarde Complete Forme, Melmetal, Palkia, and Reshiram, all with Best Buddy status. The player's Pokedex also includes other special Pokemon variants such as a customized Raichu and Quagsire, both as Buddy Pokemon.
What Happens When Pokemon GO Players Level up Their Buddy Pokemon?
Pokemon GO's Buddy Pokemon system has four levels: Good, Great, Ultra, and Best Buddy. Leveling up to Buddy Pokemon guarantees trainers different perks and Hearts. These are important for trainers with Eevee and Floette, as the only way to get a Sylveon or a Florges is to get 70 and 20 Hearts, respectively. When they reach the final level, Best Buddy Pokemon get a CP boost, so that a level 45 Best Buddy Pokemon will have the CP of a level 46 Pokemon. The Pokemon with Best Buddy status also wears a special heart-shaped ribbon that is displayed on the trainer's Pokedex.
