Just when fans think Pokemon GO is done announcing July events, another one pops up. This weekend will feature both Articuno Day and Squirtle Community Day, but since July marks the two year anniversary of the mobile AR game, apparently that's not enough. To celebrate the big day, fans will also be getting some special Pikachu-themed treats.

The biggest in-game bonus for the Pokemon GO two-year anniversary is an increase in Pichu and Pikachu spawns and the release of a new event Pikachu. The new summer style event Pikachu is ready for the warm weather and rocks a straw hat and sunglasses.

Here's the official announcement from Niantic...

"None other than Pikachu has joined in to celebrate this momentous occasion, so keep an eye out for Pikachu and Pichu as they will appear more frequently tomorrow (July 6 PT) until July 31. Plus, this year, you can say hello throughout the month to a special “Summer Style” Pikachu, that’s decked out in a straw hat and sunglasses."

Although some players may be sick of making room for event Pikachu in their inventory, it's always exciting to have a new variant to hunt down and collect. It's been quite a while since we had a new event Pikachu anyway, so perhaps players are ready for the return of the series mascot.

If past events are any indication, the event Pikachu likely won't be very difficult to track down during its time window. Usually the special event Pokemon appear at a pretty high rate and players are able to get a handful before the electric-type retires his seasonal hat.

We'll keep an eye out for any other news related to the event, so be sure to stay tuned for other updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
