It seems many Pokemon fans want the Generation 10 games to break a 10-year-old pattern that started with Pokemon X and Y by releasing without a battle gimmick. Starting with Pokemon X and Y's Mega Evolutions in 2013, every main series Pokemon game has released with a new battle gimmick. These gimmicks have resulted in some rather unique Pokemon designs and interesting twists on the standard formula, but it seems some fans are ready to see them go.

Pokemon X and Y's Mega Evolutions were fairly well-received, though some were disappointed with how they trivialized combat encounters. The Z Moves in Pokemon Sun and Moon were less popular than Mega Evolutions and faced the same criticisms. Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing from Pokemon Sword and Shield won points for their creative Pokemon designs, but again, made battles a little too easy. Terastallizing is the gimmick in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and it finds itself in the same boat as the other Pokemon gimmicks.

Reddit user No_Wrongdoer_6114 took to the site to ask that the Generation 10 Pokemon games take a break from battle gimmicks. It seems many other Pokemon fans are in agreement based on the reaction to the post, but most fans are not optimistic that Game Freak will actually listen to this request. The most likely scenario is that the Generation 10 Pokemon games, whatever shape they take, will also have some kind of gameplay gimmick equivalent to Mega Evolutions, Dynamaxing, etc.

As far as the Generation 10 Pokemon games go, virtually nothing is known about the game in an official capacity. It's rumored that the Generation 10 Pokemon games will be set in the Pokemon world's version of Australia, but otherwise all fans can do is speculate about what the new games might have in store. Chances are good that the Generation 10 Pokemon games will be aiming for release on the Switch's successor console, so it will likely be years before fans learn more about them.

While the Generation 10 Pokemon games are likely years away from release, other Pokemon games should release in the meantime. Recent rumors have suggested that the next Pokemon game will be a Pokemon Legends-style game set in the Unova region in place of traditional Black and White remakes. Whether or not there's any truth to those rumors remains to be seen.

Officially, the next Pokemon project fans can look forward to is The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, a two-part DLC in the works for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that will be released within the next six months.
