Highlights

  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus showcases the potential of cross-gen evolutions, with Ursaluna making waves in competitive VGC.
  • Galar Pokemon like Thievul, Boltund, Drednaw, Toxtricity, and Centiskorch could greatly benefit from cross-gen evolutions in Gen 10 games.
  • If Gen 10 games are set in Italy, giving Falinks a cross-gen evolution that ties into Roman soldiers would be a great opportunity.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus remains one of the best examples of how a Pokemon game can shake up the formula in dramatic ways, and an unintended side effect was that the introduction of Ursaring's cross-gen evolution Ursaluna ended up making waves in competitive VGC. Ursaluna and the more recent Bloodmoon Ursaluna from The Teal Mask are great examples of why cross-gen evolutions are still amazing to see in modern games, and Gen 10 should be no exception, especially if Game Freak wants to draw inspiration from the Galarian Pokedex.

There are many critters in Galar that would benefit from a cross-gen evolution, from the less competitively viable, such as Greedent or Dubwool, to some that have had their time in the limelight like Cramorant. Galar cross-gen evolutions in Gen 10 Pokemon games would be great to see - even more so if the critters picked for this type of gimmick are already fan favorites, have the perfect background to fit into a new region, or have something that makes their evolutionary line stand out.

Pokemon From the Galar Region That Would Benefit from a Gen 10 Evolution

Thievul and Boltund

Something about Thievul and Boltund that may not meet the eye is that these two critters are actually rivals in Galar, according to their Pokedex entries. This makes them a perfect pair to give cross-gen evolutions in Gen 10 Pokemon games, as they could not only gain a third-stage evolution to make each more powerful, but they could gain new types to become strong against one another, specifically. For example, Thievul could become Dark/Ground in order to deal supereffective damage against Boltund, which instead could become Electric/Fairy or Electric/Fighting to do the same against Thievul.

Drednaw

Although Drednaw's GMax form in Pokemon Sword and Shield gave it another evolution, in a way, a proper cross-gen evolution for the critter could make it much more powerful than it currently is. Drednaw's kit and stats don't make it a bad Pokemon by any means, but it would benefit from an evolution to make it more viable competitively - especially if the meta is to remain populated by gimmicky critters like Paradox Pokemon in Gen 9 or the various Legendaries and Mythicals from the series' past.

Toxtricity

Toxtricity is quite literally the poster boy for Pokemon Sword and Shield's Galar. This is because Pokemon games often include hints of future releases hidden somewhere, and Gen 7 games had a poster of GMax Toxtricity lying around, foreshadowing both Galar and the Dynamax phenomenon at once. Having a Gen 10 evolution of Toxtricity could make it an even more interesting pick, particularly if Game Freak decides to go the form route, with a different evolution for both Amped Up and Low Key Toxtricity.

Centiskorch

Being the first (and only) new Fire/Bug-type Pokemon since Larvesta and Volcarona, Centiskorch was already a hype-inducing Pokemon. It also gained an exclusive GMax form to spice things up further, and seeing it come back in Gen 10 to get a cross-gen evolution would be a treat for many fans. Even a Pokemon Legends Galar game could do the trick if Gen 10 has its hands full with other critters, but the fact remains that a Centiskorch evolution would be nice to see.

There are rumors that Gen 10 Pokemon games will be set in Italy, which makes sense when putting together several pieces of the puzzle dating back to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. If this is the case, it would be a missed opportunity not to make a regional form for Falinks or better yet, give it a cross-gen evolution that ties into Roman soldiers.
