With over 25 years of games, anime episodes, and more for fans to consume, there is plenty of Pokemon content out there to enjoy. Each Pokemon fan has a different set of favorites, too. When asked to pick their favorite Pokemon, generation of games, season of the anime, and more, two Pokemon fans will likely give very different answers. Pokemon fans will often share their favorite things about the franchise online. However, now the fanbase is attempting something different, as players of the games and watchers of the anime are giving their most controversial opinions about the franchise.

As much as there are many things to love about Pokemon, dedicated fans have also found plenty of things they have grown to dislike over the years. Fans have listed their most controversial opinions on the Pokemon franchise in a long Reddit post, and though the starting post has been removed, the replies can still be read. Throughout the thousands of comments, some interesting opinions did show themselves, and it seems that there were patterns among what Pokemon fans think is their most controversial belief.

When given the opportunity to freely state their honest, controversial opinion, quite a few Pokemon fans stated that Gen 5 was their least favorite generation. This proved to be an unpopular opinion due to the fact that a lot of Pokemon fans believe that Black and White and their sequels are some of the best games to come out of the mainline titles. Those who didn't like the games stated in the Reddit thread that they found the games to be boring, and they also didn't like the fact that some Pokemon fans used their Gen 5 appreciation to talk about how bad previous Gens were in comparison.

Among the Gen 5 hate, there was also talk of loving Gen 8. Sword and Shield are not the most beloved Pokemon games, and many fans found them to be disappointing. Those with alleged unpopular opinions said that the Gen 8 games were actually some of the best, if fans were willing to accept the fact that they didn't have the best story. Some also liked the controversial idea of the Galar region only having a limited amount of Pokemon, rather than including all the creatures from the franchise.

Moving on from fans' opinion of generations, one belief that seemed a little less controversial was from one Pokemon player who stated that they preferred the Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanic in Pokemon Sword and Shield over the Mega Evolutions introduced in Gen 6. Whether Mega Evolutions should come back is a divisive topic, as some fans would love to see Scarlet and Violet feature the mechanic, while others would rather it remain in the past.
