An unfortunate Pokemon fan loses all of his childhood games after being robbed during a trip to Barcelona. The classic Pokemon games that were stolen are some of the most expensive and hardest games to find today.

Pokemon is one of Nintendo’s most successful franchises with a new game from the series present on most of the handheld systems the company has made. It all started in 1996 when Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue were first released. For collectors looking to buy an unopened grade-10 copy of those two original games, they’ll have to spend up to $2500 dollars. Those are not the only classic Pokemon games that are expensive either, with graded copies of Pokemon Gold & Pokemon Silver costing up to $1600, graded copies of PokemonCrystal costing as much as $3800, and sealed grade-10 copies of Pokemon FireRed going up as high as $4500. As mind-boggling as these prices are, the memories of playing each game as a child are priceless.

Reddit user DiegotheEcuadorian posted his story about losing his Nintendo DS and some of the best Pokemon DS games ever made during a robbery in Barcelona. In the robbery, Diego lost Pokemon X, Pokemon Black, and Pokemon Black 2, which are hard-to-find games, but loose copies can be purchased somewhat cheaply on sites like eBay. Unfortunately, he also lost Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Soul Silver, and PokemonPlatinum, three games that can be purchased on eBay but at much higher prices. Altogether, the six games can be purchased out of the box on eBay for around $400 to $600, plus the cost of a new DS.

Under the comments for the post, Diego received plenty of sympathy, followed by more unfortunate stories about losing classic Pokemon games. Other Reddit users' stories included Nina3491’s about her younger cousin getting all their Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games stolen in an airport and Thatkentuckydaddy’s story about leaving his Gameboy Advance with all his classic Pokemon games on a bus in Miami. These stories are as equally as tragic as Diego's and act as good lessons for gamers to never carry all of their games with them while traveling. The sympathy and stories seem to have worked, as DiegotheEcuadorian left a comment that appeared to be in good spirits.

It is possible that Nintendo could release these classic Pokemon games on the Switch in the future. The Nintendo Switch Online service has received a few Pokemon games, such as Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, and PokemonPuzzle League. Plus, with the remake of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, a game initially released on the 3DS, an even more powerful version of the regular DS, coming to the Switch next year, there’s always hope that some of the Pokemon DS classics may get ported or remade as well.
