Many old-school Pokemon fans would likely agree that the classic Gen 1 or Kanto Region Pokemon universe brings about a unique kind of nostalgia. And this has been proven to be true, more so when a Pokemon cosplayer recently made noise on social media for her splendid cosplay of Misty, one of the most popular Water-type Gym leaders in the franchise.

For most Pokemon fans, Misty does not need any kind of introduction. The character first made her appearance as head of the Water-centric Pokemon Gym in Cerulean City, and the second Gym leader the main protagonist will encounter in Pokemon Red and Blue. Through the years, Misty has retained her popularity by being a regular character in the Pokemon animated series. She has also made distinct appearances in several other video games titles such as the Nintendo Switch’s Pokemon Let’s Go games, and Pokemon GO and Pokemon Masters for mobile platforms.

On Instagram, user nekkiracosplay shared several posts with photos of her Misty cosplay. Clad in the iconic yellow tank top, denim shorts, and orange suspenders, her cosplay looks like the perfect homage to the powerful Water-type trainer in Pokemon. Nekkiracosplay completed the look by wearing a bright-orange wig that replicates the trainer’s well-known red-headed ponytail hairdo, and blue contact lenses to imitate Misty’s bright eyes.

In all of the photos, nekkiracosplay is seen holding Togepi, the Fairy-type Pokemon. Fans would likely agree that this makes her cosplay that more accurate as Togepi is often seen in the arms of Misty in the later anime episodes. Known for its high-pitched screams and baby-like demeanor, the egg Pokemon has since been highly associated with the Gym leader, despite her roster being mostly composed of Water-type Pokemon.

This is not the first time that Pokemon fans have cosplayed Misty. Recently, another cosplayer also brought the Water-type Gym leader to life, featuring the Pokemon Lapras and a Pokemon battle scene. Given how iconic Misty is as a character, and how integral she is to the franchise, this is likely not the last time fans will see cosplays of her.

With the Pokemon franchise introducing new Pokemon Gym leaders in every generation, every trainer seems to have become a contestant in a character popularity contest. Given how long ago Misty was introduced to the public, it truly is a testament to her fans’ loyalty that she still stays top-of-mind as one of the franchise’s most well-known Water-type Gym leaders.
