A talented Pokemon fan has created a carving of the Fire-type canine Arcanine, using several different wood species. Over the years, fans have been continuously undertaking projects to recreate some of the franchise’s most recognizable critters. From making original designs of new typing variants complete with Pokedex entries to painting them with a Japanese ink style and even crocheting every Gen 1 Pokemon, fans of the series are some of the most dedicated in displaying their love for the critters.

While the newer pocket monsters have racked up their fair share of affection from fans, the older Pokemon from the first generation of the franchise evoke a certain sense of nostalgia. Arcanine has especially had a commanding presence in both the video games and earlier seasons of the television show. Arcanine is a signature Pokemon of Blue, the rival character in the Gen 1 games, like Red and Blue. In the television show, the critter is briefly featured racing across a field in the original Pokemon opening which features one of the most iconic theme songs, and serves as Officer Jenny’s partner.

A creative fan is evoking feelings of nostalgia by showcasing several beautiful Generation I Pokemon hand carvings made out of wood.

A user going by the handle Exciting-Education16 has posted a photo of an Arcanine that they carved using a variety of wood species on the Pokemon subreddit. The woodworker cut the piece with the Pokemon in a pouncing position, making it look almost like a 3D painting after displaying it on paper. The Pokemon’s orange fur and black strips stand in bold contrast to its shaggy beige fur found on the canine’s head, legs, and tail. Considering the preciseness of the hind leg and tail, the piece looks to have been fitted together almost like a puzzle.

The post was well received on the subreddit, with users complimenting the carving. Many agreed that the piece was beautifully made, with one even wishing the piece was for sale. The Arcanine piece was not Exciting-Education16’s first wooden artwork as they revealed they have already carved a variety of other Pokemon. Besides Arcanine, the woodworker also made another Fire-type Pokemon, Ponyta, and the evolutionary anomaly Pokemon Eevee, Flareon, and Jolteon out of natural woods. Additionally, Exciting-Education16 carved and spray painted Sylveon, Umbreon, and Espeon (which includes a shiny version), Pumpkaboo, and two types of Bulbasaur – a normal one and a Valentine’s Day-themed variant.

The series has certainly evolved from the earlier days, going from just 151 to an extended roster of over 1000 Pokemon. And with such a passionate fanbase, there will surely be many new exciting and creative Pokemon projects emerging.
