The Pokemon franchise shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, with new games, anime, cards, and more being produced this year. The beginning of the year saw the series' take on the formula, utilizing a mission-based structure in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with real-time Pokemon catching mechanics. This year will also see the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the next mainline entries in the series. Fans were surprised to see the series moving back to something more familiar after how much was changed with Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but were still hyped nonetheless.

This hype for the mainline entries was amped up with the newest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer, which gave fans a bunch of information. Alongside new Pokemon being revealed, other details such the two professors, rivals, and legendary Pokemon were all shown as well. There were a couple NPCs that fans were able to see in this trailer, with one in particular continuing a longstanding tradition.

This NPC is known in the fandom by many names, with the most common point being his enthusiasm for technology. Ever since Pokemon Red and Blue, the first games in the franchise, this NPC expresses his fascination for how technology has evolved with a simple "Technology is Incredible" along with a piece of information regarding a mechanic of the game. Ever since then, the phrase has taken many variations referring to a host of newly introduced mechanics in the game they are in. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's version talks about the game's co-op function, where players can join up with friends to explore the region.

Fans on the r/pokemon subreddit expressed their own form of appreciation for the character, with one posting an image showing how the phrase and character has evolved over the generations. This includes his first appearance in Generation 1 to the latest look the NPC has in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The post caps off this appreciation for the NPC with a quote from Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which is a rather fitting choice considering how many games and by extension universes this NPC appears in.

This Pokemon NPC is as iconic as some of the others shown throughout the series, such as Youngster Joey and his top percentage Rattata, or the boy who loves to wear shorts since they are "comfy and easy to wear" according to them. It's entirely possible that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's other NPCs will also have variation on these iconic lines or themes that will fit the region.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will launch November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
