  • Pokémon announces special exhibition in Amsterdam at the Van Gogh museum, featuring artwork inspired by the famous painter's style.
  • The exhibition will include a mix of Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" painting and Pokémon artwork, with Pikachu, Eevee, and Sunflora making appearances.
  • Tickets for the exhibition can be purchased in advance on the Van Gogh museum's website, and if successful, the exhibition may travel to other art museums worldwide.

All summer, Pokémon has been announcing event after event, with everything from new collaboration food to museums and art exhibitions - but all of it has been in Japan. As the home of Pokemon, this makes sense, and even more so considering Japan hosted the Pokemon World Championships just last month. This latest announcement, though, has something special specifically for European Pokemon fans.

Last week on the official PokemonX (formerly Twitter) page, a new tweet was posted announcing an unexpected event in an unexpected place. In Amsterdam, Netherlands, there will be a special Pokemon exhibition held at the Van Gogh museum. It will start on September 28, 2023. The Tweet was very simple, only stating that the event was going to happen, along with the dates and the promise that more information was coming soon.

It also included a really cute new video featuring two of the most popular characters in the Pokemon franchise, Pikachu and Eevee. The video was also cross-posted on the official PokémonYouTube channel. In the video, 3D Pikachu and Eevee are running through a sunflower field together in what is clearly the Netherlands judging from the iconic windmills in the background.

As Pikachu and Eevee stop to enjoy their surroundings, the scenery around them turns from 3D-style to Van Gogh's signature brush strokes. The sunflowers around them then turn into Sunflora, another Pokemon. Finally, the end of the video shows a preview of what kind of art is likely to appear in the exhibition. It has Van Gogh's famous painting "Sunflowers," but instead of the original version, there is also a Sunflora among the other flowers in his style.

Tickets to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam are €20 ($21 USD) and can be purchased in advance via the museum's website. Specific times and dates do sell out, so it is better to book in advance if you are hoping to see the new exhibition. Interestingly, it is not yet listed on the museum's website at all, so the announcement so far has only been made from the Pokemon side of things. Hopefully, when more information becomes available, we will know more of what to expect.

Considering the ongoing popularity and success of both Pokemon and Van Gogh around the world, the idea is a good one. The Van Gogh interactive museum has been traveling around the world, including Tokyo, and has attracted many people. Hopefully, if the exhibition does well in Amsterdam, it will also travel to other art museums around the world so more people can enjoy it as well.
