Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and even the Nintendo 3DS system, just had their source codes leaked online by an anonymous hacker. Nintendo obviously isn't happy about this, but it's too good of an opportunity to pass up for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl fans, as these files can offer up secrets they would never have learned otherwise.

This leak looks to be a continuation of one that started back in April. During that time, someone hacked into Nintendo's servers and leaked the 1997 Space World demo version of PokemonGold and Silver, revealing a bunch of never-before-seen Pokemon sprits to the public.

Sadly, the Diamond and Pearl leaks don't seem to yield as many secrets as Gold and Silver's did. Then again, everything the files have to offer has yet to be explored at the time of this writing. Something of interest should pop up when that happens, though, even if it's not as substantial as the Space World demo, or the Pokemon Red and Green leaks that occurred some time ago.

As for the Nintendo 3DS, a thread on Resetera claims that several of its developmental files were leaked. The gaming system's OS source was revealed, seemingly on 4Chan, where — coincidentally enough — a recent Diamond and Pearl remake leak may have originated.

What this means for the Nintendo 3DS's future remains unseen, but it shouldn't be all that bad. The handheld console is more or less on its last legs, so Nintendo would probably prefer that it suffers the hack over the Nintendo Switch. Still, the clock's ticking on when Nintendo will retaliate. Even if the hacks reveal things that don't majorly affect the company, its still suffering cyber-attacks, and it can't very well just allow that to continue.

There's also always the possibility that things can escalate. For instance, leaking games that came out over a decade ago, such as Diamond and Pearl — and even Gold and Silver — aren't that big of a deal. But if Pokemon Sword and Shield were to suffer the same fate, then things get a lot more complicated.

It's not as if this is unlikely either as the two titles have experienced major leaks before. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company went on a manhunt over it then, and will probably do so now. The question is: how many more files will release before that happens?
