A creative Pokemon fan came up with a potential evolution for Dewgong. Such a new evolved form would actually be within the realm of possibility, as the media franchise has released additional evolved forms for old monsters in the past.

Dewgong, a Water/Ice-type that evolves from Seel starting at level 34, is one of the Pokemon series' original 151 monsters introduced in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow. Much like other first generation Pokemon, Dewgong has a simple yet recognizable design that is believed to be based on a real-life animal, in this case, the earless seal. An impressive fan-made evolution of Dewgong has made its way online, and it also seemingly takes inspiration from aquatic mammals that live in freezing polar waters.

Pokemon Fan Designs Gruesome 'Disrupted Evolution' for Kakuna

A talented Pokemon fan designs a grisly 'Disrupted Evolution' for Kakuna, a Bug-type creature from Gen 1 that normally evolves to Beedril.

In a recent post on the Pokemon subreddit, user JJonnie shared their idea of a potential Dewgong evolved form called Nawrleo. The artist explained that this evolution, which appears to be a combination of a leopard seal and a narwhal, features an expandable vocal pouch that can generate a large sonic wave. This description suggests that Nawrleo can use something like Sonic Boom, one of the many special moves that were removed from the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games of the current Generation 9 era.

Several community members praised JJonnie's original work, and others even claimed Nawrleo looked like a Digimon. Some said that the fan-made Dewgong evolution resembled Gabumon in particular, which is one of the Digimon series' most iconic characters. While actually being quite different in terms of narrative, style, and execution, Digimon was once considered the biggest rival to Pokemon. The latter franchise undoubtedly became more successful, but Digimon is still a recognizable name among fans of Japanese media. Digimon had a pretty eventful 2023, with the series concluding its latest television show, Digimon Ghost Game, as well as releasing a film, Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, that year.

At What Level Does Seel Evolve Into Dewgong?

  • Level 34

Nawrleo is not JJonnie's first original Pokemon evolution concept. The talented artist was also behind the impressive fan-made evolution of the Pokemon Charcadet called Ballisteal. Last November, another Reddit user designed Halloween-themed evolutions for Eevee, the first generation Pokemon that currently has eight possible evolved forms - the highest number for any monster.

The original evolutions created by JJonnie and other artists will most likely forever remain as fan concepts, but the Pokemon franchise has played with the idea of giving monsters from past generations new evolved forms. For instance, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet had several cross-gen evolutions. Among these was Annihilape, the final evolution for the first generation Pokemon Mankey and Primeape.
