The Pokemon Company and Nintendo first released Pokemon Red and Blue way back in 1996 and since then Pokemon fans have created mountains of fan art. One Pokemon fan has decided to make a unique physical item celebrating the early episodes of the Pokemon anime by crafting a crystal Onix.

Reddit user MyPokePrints recently posted a clip of them showing off a handcrafted Pokemon figure built to resemble crystal Onix from an episode of the Pokemon show called "The Crystal Onix." The cleverly created Pokemon connects several smaller gems to a gem that notably resembles the head of Onix, complete with the fin atop its head. Contrary to the usual gray or silver look for Onix, this crystal Onix is fittingly light blue, and it sparkles in the light as the anime Pokemon equivalent did when Ash Ketchum and his friends encountered it.

The head of MyPokePrints' crystal Onix is connected to 11 similarly sized crystals that tie the top of the serpent-like Pokemon to its narrow tail which is noticeably much smaller than the rest of its body. Its elongated structure allows MyPokePrints to twirl the crystal Pokemon between their fingers to highlight its flexibility as the gems are seemingly tied together with string on the inside. This malleable form allows MyPokePrints to put this crystal Onix in various places and positions as weight distribution will allow them to stand it up or hang it at an angle with the help of additional tools.

This crystal Onix was first portrayed in episode 87 of the Pokemon anime series when Ash journeys to the Orange Islands. While the Pokemon games eventually created regional variants that showed alternative looks of existing Pokemon, crystal Onix has yet to be revisited by The Pokemon Company in the Pokemon games. Although The Pokemon Company hasn't confirmed this rare Pokemon's typing, many fans have speculated that its shiny blue coating suggests that it would be a mix of Ice-type with a secondary ground or rock-type.

The Pokemon Company first introduced regional variants with Alolan forms in Pokemon Sun and Moon which has caused many fans to speculate which Pokemon will get such variants in the future. Because crystal Onix has been recognized in the Pokemon anime, some Pokemon fans have been speculating since Sun and Moon were released that crystal Onix is bound to make it to a Pokemon game in the future. It's currently unclear if crystal Onix will ever make it to the main Pokemon games or if it will be regulated to a Pokemon GO event, spin-off title like Pokemon Unite, be the focus of another Pokemon anime episode, or if it will never show up again.
