The day has finally arrived for Pokemon fans everywhere to set up shop. The newest game in the franchise's more casual range, Pokemon Cafe Mix, is available now. Fans who need a break from the new Isle of Armor expansion are in for a fun time as they fulfill orders, befriend customers, and maybe convince a few of them to join the team.
At its core, Pokemon Cafe Mix is a puzzle game, but it is much more than that. Players start by creating a cafe team, beginning with Eevee but adding many favorites to choose from: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Meowth, Starly, Lucario, Snubbull, Munchlax, Minccino, and of course Slurpuff. More workers can join the staff from promotional events, bonding with them to increase friendship, and at least one in-game purchase with real money. These workers then help make all sorts of fun treats, such as Hot Litwick Cocoa and Fluffy Eevee Pancakes. Players can upgrade their cafe as they grow, which will then invite new Pokemon to come visit and possibly stay.
The actual puzzle part of the game requires players to match Pokemon icons and link them together, clearing them from the screen and moving to the next section of the puzzle. It is not a novel idea by any means, but honestly seems secondary to the customizing and recruiting aspects of the game. Players can find new ingredients within the puzzles, which will unlock new recipes for them to make in the cafe. Pokemon have different abilities that can help complete the puzzles, so it is good to have a variety on staff.
Players better open a cafe sooner than later because events are already starting for this new game. Logging into the game once a day earns a stamp, and five stamps recruits a Pikachu to the team. There is also a pack (for real money) that will invite a Sweets Pikachu who wears a special uniform. This pack also comes with some items and golden acorns, the game’s currency. From July 1 to July 15, Scorbunny will show up as a customer. If the player can fulfill the fire Pokemon's order enough times, it may just want to stick around and join the staff.
With the recent news of the upcoming Pokemon Snap game, players have more opportunities than ever to catch Pokemon in friendly and fun ways.
