Pokemon Cafe Mix, a newly released free-to-play puzzle game, has trainers brewing steamy lattes and scrambling to collect Golden Acorns.
Upon serving a cafe order, Cafe Mix players are rewarded Golden Acorns and an increase in friendship. Once befriended, Pokemon can join a player's Cafe Staff. Golden Acorns function as the game's form of premium currency, like Fortnite's "V-Bucks", and allow players to refresh their valuable hearts, and purchase power-ups and additional moves.
One of the simplest ways to earn Golden Acorns is by serving up delicious orders. Every time a customer is served, the player is rewarded with some precious Golden Acorns. Though players really looking to up their acorn gains should try their hardest to complete orders in as few moves as possible. Orders completed using fewer moves will earn more Golden Acorns. If a barista feels up for the challenge, completing the three tasks on a Challenge Card will also score some Golden Acorns — challenge cards do have a reset timer after completion, though.
Another straightforward path to Golden Acorns is collecting daily rewards. The reward changes every day, but players receive a free goodie once a day, just for logging onto the game, which is oftentimes a bundle of Golden Acorns. Whereas Pokemon GO players have few paths to PokeCoins, Cafe Mix players can both collect their daily stamps, and login multiple consecutive days to work their way towards a cumulative reward. The current 5-day login reward grants players a free Pikachu as Cafe Staff, so don't miss out!
If players have finished their daily tasks and still need an extra handful of acorns, trainers also have the option of purchasing additional Golden Acorns for real-world cash. For the players unopposed to dropping dollars for items, "Item Packs" range from $1.99 to $79.99, and include numerous items alongside a stockpile of acorns. Players also have the option of purchasing Golden Acorns alone in four increments: 1,200 for $0.99, 6,100 for $4.99, 12,200 for $9.99, and 24,400 for $19.99. That breaks down to 1,220 acorns/$0.99, when spending $4.99 or more, otherwise 1,200 acorns/$0.99.
Although the microtransactions may ruffle some feathers, Pokemon Cafe Mix certainly offers players ample opportunities to stash away Golden Acorns, and a distraction from the ill-received Pokemon Unite reveal. Just be sure to log in every day, and think smart, not fast, when serving up cafe treats.
