Build-a-Bear is now adding the adorable Ghost/Fairy-type Mimikyu to its growing line of Pokemon-themed collectible plush toys, complete with an assortment of cute accessories. Nintendo’s legendary monster-wrangling RPG series has plenty of tie-in merchandise to go along with its long list of games, movies, and TV shows, from collectible Pokemon trading cards to apparel from companies like Converse and Clarks.
With its ever-expanding line-up of cute and lovable creatures, it should come as little surprise that the popular plush toy franchise Build-a-Bear has its own partnership with the Pokemon brand. The first Pokemon Build-a-Bear was released way back in 2016 and naturally featured the series’ iconic mascot Pikachu, which customers could dress up in an equally adorable Poke Ball hoodie. From there, franchise mainstays like Growlithe and the Eevee evolutions started getting their own Build-a-Bear plushies, leading up to the addition of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Grass-type Starter Sprigatito this July.
Now another popular Pokemon is getting the cute plush toy treatment from Build-a-Bear, this one being the adorable and spooky Mimikyu from Pokemon Sun and Moon. Generation 7’s mysterious Ghost/Fairy Pokemon is now available to order in doll form on the official Build-a-Bear website in a $69.00 bundle and comes in two different outfit variations: a sporting top hat and bow tie set and a cozy cape and hat buddle. The Mimikyu Build-a-Bear plush also plays five distinct sound effects pulled from the creature’s appearances across the various Pokemon media. A standalone $34.00 versioon is also available.
Mimikyu has become a popular member of the vast Pokemon universe since its introduction in 2016, with Pokemon fans coming up with creepy theories about its strange resemblance to Pikachu. Indeed, Mimikyu is known for hiding itself under a cloth patterned after Pokemon’s famous electricity-generating mascot, and it is said that looking underneath it could actually kill a human. This disturbing aspect of the otherwise adorable Mimikyu has fueled plenty of bizarre fan art that manages to be even scarier than the Pokemon itself.
Thankfully, Build-a-Bear customers won’t have to worry about dying from shock after looking at the newly-released Mimikyu plush, which is now available to order in time for Halloween. The Pokemon franchise lends itself well to stuffed animals like the ones offered by Build-a-Bear, and part of the fun comes from guessing which cuddly and collectible creature will be the next to be immortalized in doll form. In the meantime, fans can now be haunted by Sun and Moon’s spooky Mimikyu with just a simple order at Build-a-Bear.
