First introduced in the gen 2 Pokemon games, Sun Stones can be used to evolve five different Pokemon, though not all of these show up in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Unlike most of the other Evolution Stones in the games, there are no fixed points where players can find them, meaning that those hoping to get their hands on Bellossom or Sunflora are going to need a little bit of luck on their side.

As is often the case when looking for Evolution Stones, the Grand Underground once again holds the key, with a few different methods for finding Sun Stones tied to Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl's sprawling subterranean system of caves. This guide will explain how exactly players can find Sun Stones, as well as the Pokemon that evolve when exposed to them.

Where to Find a Sun Stone in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Much like Moon Stones, there are no guaranteed Sun Stone pick-ups up in the overworld for Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, meaning that players will again need to rely on RNG when looking for them. As in numerous other Pokemon games, there's a 5% chance that a wild Solrock will be holding a Sun Stone when caught. With this in mind, players should head down to the Grand Underground to find themselves a Sun Stone.

For those who are having trouble finding Solrock, the Grand Underground's excavation mini-game may provide a slightly better option. To get started, players just need to look for an orange marker on the mini-map and then press the R button while nearby to pinpoint its exact location. Once they know where to look, players can examine the spot with A to start digging. Though not as common as Thunder and Fire Stones, Sun Stones do show up fairly regularly, so it shouldn't take too long for players to find one.

Pokemon That Evolve Using a Sun Stone in Brilliant Diamond Diamond & Shining Pearl

  • Gloom -> Bellossom
  • Sunkern -> Sunflora

Due to the gen 4 remakes largely sticking to Pokemon first introduced in the Sinnoh region or earlier, they only feature two Pokemon that can be evolved with a Sun Stone. The first of these, Gloom, which can also be evolved using a Leaf Stone, can be found in the Grand Underground as well as on Routes 224, 229, and 230. Sunkern can also be found in the Grand Underground and also on Route 204, though players will need to use the Poke Radar to find it there.
