While some players will be happy with their characters’ default looks in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, others will undoubtedly want to do a bit of customizing. Indeed, character customization is possible in these titles, as fans can change their characters’ outfits and hairstyles. For those Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl players that are interested in performing these types of changes, details on the process can be found in what follows.

Updated on February 15, 2022 by Renri Seong: As the Pokemon series has evolved, so has character customization. Before Pokemon X/Y, players would be stuck with the default look of their main character. Now, players can dress up their characters to make them more distinct and personal from others. While Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl is a bit more restricted in the customization department, Lucas/Dawn's wardrobe has expanded well beyond their default attire in these Diamond/Pearl remakes. This article has been updated to include the various clothing that can be bought in-game.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Change Clothes

In order to change outfits in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players must first reach Veilstone City. For full clarity, this town is where fans will encounter the games’ third Gym Leader, and it is also home to the Metronome Style Shop.

In the original Diamond/Pearl, the Metronome Style Shop was home to the Veilstone Game Corner. Because of PEGI's rule about games classifying for an 18+ rating if they have gambling, the Game Corner has been replaced with a clothes store for Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.

Players can find the Metronome Style Shop just below Veilstone’s Pokemon Center, and indeed it is the key to character customization. Look for the building with two Clefairys on its front.

Upon locating the Metronome Style Shop, players should enter the building and interact with the NPC behind the counter. This action will give Pokemon BDSP fans access to a dialogue box that allows them to either shop for a new outfit or change their current style. Selecting the first of those two options will take players to a menu where they can purchase numerous different styles, which are each composed of a set of clothes and a hairstyle, while the second option is used to switch between styles that are already owned.

Notably, styles function quite rigidly in these titles, and it is simply not possible for players to mix and match pieces of clothing and hairstyles to create their own unique outfits. Fortunately, the styles that are available are fairly diverse, drawing inspiration from various Pokemon, seasons, and more. Hopefully, this diversity will allow a majority of fans to land on an outfit that they at least deem to be servicable for their journeys across Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Sinnoh region.

One final thing to mention is that there is a style that cannot be purchased at the Metronome Style Shop. Specifically, it is the Platinum Style, and it is accessible to players that buy one of these two games before February 22, 2022. For those fans that do meet that requirement, the Platinum Style is accessed by heading to the TV station in Jubilife City and unlocking Mystery Gifts in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

On a first visit to the Metronome Style Shop, it'll be impossible to buy every outfit. The prices themselves are fairly high and it won't be until the end of the player's journey where they'll have enough money to buy out the store. However, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl have a few different ways to quickly farm money. The easiest method is by battling the rich trainers outside the Pokemon Mansion on Route 212. This is located directly south of Hearthome City.

To get more money to buy clothing, have a Pokemon at the front of the party equipped with the Amulet Coin. The Amulet Coin doubles the amount of reward money. Battle the trainers with the Trainer Classes: Socialite, Gentleman, Lady, and Rich Boy. Use the VS Seeker to challenge them again. Enough battles with them should give players the money they need to get all the clothing styles at the Metronome Style Shop.

Finally, NPCs and supporting characters in BDSP won't comment on Lucas/Dawn's change of clothing. There's also no reward for getting all styles in-game. Whatever's at the Metronome Style Shop is all players can get in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
