The stoic, powerful mascot of Pokemon: Brilliant Diamond, Dialga has been an icon of the franchise since the original Generation 4 game. After capturing this legendary Pokemon at Spear Pillar and saving the world from Team Galactic, the player can add it to their team. Dialga can prove an invaluable ally as trainers battle their way through the Elite Four and become Champion.

Though the Lord of Time is strong on its own, the right held item can make it even more powerful. Whether players choose to increase the power of its moves or tighten its defenses, held items are the best way to do so without wasting a turn. Here are some of the best items to place in the hands of this legendary Steel/Dragon type.

6 Muscle Band

Dialga's attacks are fairly evenly divided between Special and Physical moves, but its Special Attack is quite a bit higher than its Attack. To really take advantage of moves like Iron Tail and Dragon Claw, consider giving Dialga a Muscle Band, which boosts the power of the holder's Physical moves by 10%.

The Muscle Band can only be obtained in the postgame, which isn't much of a drawback for Dialga, since the mascot is obtained quite late into the game's plot. After defeating the Elite Four and the Champion, players can purchase this item at the Battle Tower in exchange for 48 BP.

5 Dragon Fang

Dialga's signature move, Roar of Time, is a Dragon-type attack, as are many other powerful moves in its repertoire. To make the most of these, players can give Dialga a Dragon Fang, which increases the power of Dragon-type moves by 20%. Though only super-effective against other Dragon types, these moves can be incredibly useful in battle, especially when boosted.

Players can find a Dragon Fang in the Grand Underground, in a Sandsear Cave hideaway in the Southeastern Zone. Access this area of the Underground by using the Explorer's Kit in Sunyshore City, and look for the tan-and-orange square to find the right hideaway.

4 Iron Plate

Similar to the Dragon Fang, this item acts as a power booster for a specific type of move; in this case, Steel-type attacks, which it powers up by 20%. Though their functions are similar, this item ranks higher than the Dragon-type move booster, because Steel-type moves have a greater offensive advantage. They are super-effective against Ice, Rock, and Fairy-types — the latter of which is immune to Dialga's Dragon-type moves.

Players can find the Iron Plate while digging for treasure in the Grand Underground. However, it can take a while to find one, so alternatively, head over to Iron Island by taking the ferry from Canalave City. Here, there's an Iron Plate in the left-hand cave on the second basement level.

3 Shuca Berry

Though Dialga's Steel/Dragon typing leaves it with only two weaknesses, a strong Ground-type attack like Earthquake can be debilitating in a tough battle. A Shuca Berry, though, can help mitigate this threat: it halves the damage that the holder takes from a super-effective Ground-type attack.

Though Shuca Berries can be a bit hard to come by, they're worth the effort. Stop by the Berry Woman's house in Pastoria City once per day, and she will give the player a random damage-reducing Berry. It might take a while to get this particular one, but patience will pay off. Once obtained, players can plant and water their Shuca Berries to grow a near-infinite supply.

2 Chople Berry

Much like Ground-type attacks, Fighting-type attacks can be devastating for Dialga — and they are far more widespread, with a huge variety of Pokemon being able to learn these moves. The Chople Berry, though, functions similarly to the Shuca Berry. It halves damage taken from a super-effective Fighting-type attack.

Like other damage-reducing Berries, the Chople Berry can be obtained at random from the Berry Woman in Pastoria City. Plant them in soft soil and water them often to gain a steady supply, ensuring Dialga is always ready to tank an otherwise devastating attack.

1 Adamant Orb

Coming as no surprise, the best item for Dialga to hold is the one that players can obtain immediately when they catch it. The Adamant Orb boosts both Steel and Dragon-type moves by 20%, making it perfect for this Steel/Dragon type. What's more, it is designed to be held only by the Lord of Time itself — its effect only works in the hands of this Pokemon.

For those who catch Dialga at Spear Pillar in Brilliant Diamond, the Adamant Orb will be easy to obtain: simply walk to the area where Dialga was standing, and pick up the item laying there. For players who obtain Dialga through trade, however, there's no guarantee that it will arrive with the Adamant Orb in hand. If this is the case, players can instead use one of the power-boosting items above to give Dialga an extra edge.
