The Sinnoh Dex in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl may be too restricted for some trainers. As remakes of the original Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, players will only have access to 150-151 species of Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl before they unlock the National Dex.
A good chunk of Pokemon in the starter dex (Sinnoh Dex) are Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh Pokemon. Familiar Pokemon like Pikachu can be caught before the postgame, but other fan-favorites like Eevee are only obtainable after the Elite Four. Another recurring issue with the Sinnoh Dex was the lack of Fire-type that weren't Chimchar or Ponyta. With Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Grand Underground, players have a little more variety.
Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex
This is a list of all 151 Pokemon that players will encounter before they defeat Champion Cynthia. Since some Pokemon are version-exclusive, it will be impossible to catch every one of them without trading. To get the National Dex, players need to see all Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex. Don't worry about being locked out of the National Dex since all 150 Pokemon will be encountered over time in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's story.
Players can also get Manaphy, who is #151 in the Sinnoh Dex. They will have a chance to get a Manaphy Egg from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Mystery Gift until February 21, 2022.

Pokemon in the Grand Underground
The Grand Underground is an expansion of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum's Underground feature. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl may not be remakes of Pokemon Platinum, but the Pokemon added to the Platinum expansion (such as Ralts and Houndoom) can be found in the Grand Underground as rare Pokemon.
To access the Grand Underground, players need to have Oreburgh City's gym badge and then go to Eterna City. Speak to the old man in the house next to the Pokemon Center to get the Explorer Kit. In the Grand Underground, players can visit rooms/habitats and find Wandering Pokemon.
The levels of Grand Underground Pokemon will vary depending on the number of badges the player has. The lowest they can be caught at is around level 16. The lower the player's Pokemon are, the harder it will be to catch these Pokemon. Bring plenty of Poke Balls and a Pokemon that can inflict Status Ailments to make catching them easier.
Once players have received the National Dex, more Pokemon will inhabit the Grand Underground. For now, these are the only Pokemon that can be caught before the postgame:
