The majority of Pokemon that players catch in the Pokemon games are found in the wild, but there are other ways that players can add Pokemon to their collection as well. For example, sometimes Nintendo gives away special Pokemon as Mystery Gifts, allowing certain players to snag rare Pokemon for a limited time. The latest promotion is for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as well as Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but it's only relevant to Nintendo Switch users in a specific region.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will soon be able to claim a special Piplup for their collection if they spend over 35,000 Won at the Pokemon Store Online or 60,000 Won for those who want two codes to get the water-type starter in both BDSP and Arceus. As reported by Serebii, the Piplup that players can get in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl comes with an Everstone and knows Hydro Pump, Bubblebeam, Whirlpool, and Peck. The Piplup in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, meanwhile, knows Liquidation, Bubble, Water Pulse, and Aerial Ace. The Piplup is inspired by Dawn's Piplup from the Pokemon anime and is being released to celebrate the release of Giratina and The Sky Warrior movie in South Korean theaters.

A start date for this event has not been announced at the time of this writing, but it's likely going to happen sooner rather than later. In the meantime, Pokemon gamers outside South Korea may be wondering when they will get the chance to get this special Piplup. Unfortunately, plans to that effect have not been announced just yet, and fans shouldn't hold their breath that it will happen. There have been times when Pokemon distribution events like this have stayed exclusive to specific areas of the world, and it's possible that will be the case in this situation.

This wouldn't be the first time that a Piplup has been given away through a region-exclusive distribution event. Back in February, Japan Pokemon Centers gave away special Piplups for both Pokemon BDSP and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. What set this particular Piplup apart was that it came with Roost, a special flying-type move that lets the Pokemon heal itself.

Pokemon fans can expect more distribution events like this down the line, though they may shift focus from BDSP and Pokemon Legends: Arceus to the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet instead. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet don't have release dates just yet, but they're expected to launch later in 2022.
