Eevee is well-known and beloved by many fans for its evolution potential. It currently has the highest amount of evolutions in the Pokemon world, totaling eight different evolutions. All of Eevee's evolutions, or rather "Eeveelutions" as coined by the fandom, have a base stat total of 525. While some excel in Special Attack, others may have sturdy Defense.

The recent Eeveelution, Sylveon, debuted in Pokemon X/Y, the sixth generation of Pokemon. Despite being a remake in generation eight, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl does not include Sylveon in the Pokedex. Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl players can only get Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, and Glaceon.

Eevee

pokemon tcg eevee

How to Get: Eevee is unavailable pre-Elite Four, but there are two ways of getting it:

  1. After getting the National Dex, trainers can go to Hearthome City and get a free Eevee from Bebe, who lives next door to the Pokemon Center.
  2. Eevee is one of Mr. Backlot's Daily Pokemon in the Trophy Garden (postgame only). Speak to him, and he may mention seeing an Eevee in his garden. Like other Daily Pokemon, Eevee has a 5% chance of appearing.

Eevee is a Normal-type Pokemon whose popularity has grown well over time. Its learnset is pretty modest and combines damaging and non-damaging moves. Eevee has the following Type-effectiveness and base stats:

Eevee's stats aren't too great and none of them break more than 65. Furthermore, the damage-inflicting moves Eevee has are mostly Physical and very limited to boot. Its second Ability, Adaptability (increases STAB damage), isn't backed up by Eevee's movepool or Attack. A good nature for Eevee is Adamant (+Attk, -Sp.Attk), but trainers should decide whether they want to use Eevee casually or competitively before trying to get a specific Nature.

If trainers wish to use Eevee competitively, it can be good for using Baton Pass or stalling the opponent. Eevee also learns Attack-lowering moves such as Charm. If Eevee is going to be used for in-game battles, then use TMs to give it coverage. One move trainers should consider teaching is TM28 Dig (Ground-type). This will allow Eevee to deal super-effective damage against most Steel and Rock-type Pokemon, who both resist Normal-type moves.

Another move to teach Eevee is TM30 Shadow Ball. Eevee's Normal-type moves won't be able to damage Ghost-types, so by giving it Shadow Ball or Bite (Dark-type), it can make contact with Ghost-type Pokemon. Unfortunately, Eevee won't gain STAB by using non-Normal moves, but giving it some variety will give it a much-needed push against Rock, Steel, and Ghost-types.

To get all seven of the Eeveelutions , trainers will need to catch another Eevee at the Trophy Garden, or they can breed the Eevee they get from Bebe with a Ditto at the Pokemon Day Care .

Vaporeon

pokemon tcg vaporeon

How to Get: Give Eevee a Water Stone to evolve it into Vaporeon. There are three surefire ways of getting a Water Stone in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. Any more Water Stones will need to be dug up in the Grand Underground.

  1. Route 213 (requires HM Surf)
  2. Inside one of the rooms in Solaceon Ruins (use Dowsing Machine)
  3. Route 230

Vaporeon is a Water-type Pokemon with high Special Attack and solid Special Defense. It has the following base stats and type effectiveness:

As a Special Attacker, Vaporeon's moveset works best with moves like Ice Beam and Scald. Leveling up, Vaporeon gets a mix of offensive and defensive moves, but it may be best to use TMs to give it some bulk. Acid Armor is a move Vaporeon learns at level 45, and this will sharply raise Vaporeon's Defense, which is its worst stat. However, its Defense is balanced out by its high HP and Special Defense.

Unfortunately, Vaporeon isn't too fast, so it's not difficult for faster Grass or Electric-type Pokemon to strike first and potentially 1HKO it. Vaporeon can learn Dig to combat Electric-type Pokemon, but since this is a Physical move, it might not be enough to take it out. However, using TM13 to teach Vaporeon Ice Beam will give it coverage against Grass-types. Scald is recommended for Vaporeon's STAB and has a 30% chance of burning its target.

A recommended Nature for Vaporen is Modest (+Sp. Attk, -Attk) or Bold (+Def, -Attk). Those that want to use Vaporeon as a battler should go with Modest, while those who want to use it as a wall and chip at the enemy's health should go with Bold.

Jolteon

pokemon tcg jolteon

How to Get: Give Eevee a Thunder Stone, and it will evolve into Jolteon. Like the Water Stone, there are three Thunder Stones in Sinnoh. Any additional Thunder Stones will be found in the Grand Underground.

  1. Sunyshore City
  2. Inside one of the rooms in Solaceon Ruins (use Dowsing Machine)
  3. Route 229

Jolteon is a fast Electric-type Pokemon and a Special Attacker to boot. It's a commonly used Electric-type Pokemon because of its good stats hindered slightly by its learnset.

Despite Jolteon's moves not being the greatest, it still gains some coverage with Double Kick and Pin Missile. However, a good Electric-type move to teach Jolteon is TM24 Thunderbolt. This is a hard-hitting Electric-type move with 100% accuracy and gives Jolteon STAB. Despite learning Physical moves like Thunder Fang (which also gives it STAB), it's recommended to take advantage of Jolteon's Special Attack over its Attack stat.

Natures good for Jolteon are Timid (+Spd, -Attk) or Modest (+Sp.Attk, -Attk). Jolteon is not only a strong hitter but the fastest out of the Eeveelutions. If Jolteon can strike first and hit hard, then it can easily 1HKO the enemy team.

Flareon

pokemon tcg flareon

How to Get: Give Eevee a Fire Stone to get Flareon. There are only two different places to get Fire Stones in Sinnoh; players can retrieve the rest from the Grand Underground.

  1. Fuego Ironworks (top right of the room)
  2. Inside one of the rooms in Solaceon Ruins (use Dowsing Machine)

Flareon is a Fire-type Pokemon with high Attack and Special Defense, but meager Speed and Defense. It seems out of all the Eeveelutions, Flareon seems to be the least-favored in battle. However, this doesn't make it useless, and it can be a good Fire-type if trainers know how to use it.

Flareon doesn't have the best moves in its learnset. It misses out on Flamethrower, but Flareon is also a Physical attacker while Flamethrower is a Special move. Flareon's movepool consists mostly of a few Fire-type moves, with Fire Fang and Flare Blitz being the only ones that deal Physical damage. Flare Blitz is good because it has 15PP, 100% accuracy, and a power of 120, but it's not without drawbacks. Flare Blitz has heavy recoil damage and can potentially knock out its user if trainers aren't careful.

Unlike Special Attackers Jolteon and Espeon, Flareon can make better use of moves like Dig. This can give it coverage against Rock-type Pokemon.

A good Nature for Flareon is Adamant (+Attk, -Sp.Attk) because of its poor Special Attack and great Attack stat. Flareon's awful Speed isn't allowing it to go first on too many turns, but it's best to avoid Natures that will lower its Speed growth too.

Espeon

pokemon tcg espeon

How to Get:

  1. Get Eevee's Friendship to level 220. Trainers can check Eevee's Friendship level by using the Friendship Checker Poketch app or speaking to the woman in the Pokemon Fanclub at Hearthome City.
  2. Next, level up Eevee during the Day.

Friendship Tips:

  • If the woman at the Pokemon Fan Club says: "It's very friendly toward you. I can tell you treat it kindly", then Eevee's Friendship is above 200.
  • On the Friendship Checker App, a Pokemon that has "two hearts" above its head indicates a Friendship level over 200.

Espeon is the Psychic-type Eeveelution and is known for being a swift Special Attacker. While not as fast as Jolteon, an Espeon with a good moveset and Nature can easily sweep the opponent's team.

A must-have move for Espeon is Calm Mind, which raises its Special Attack and Special Defense by one stage. An Espeon that has multiple Calm Minds stacked will be unstoppable as long as it can move first. Which, given Espeon's Speed, shouldn't be too much of an issue. Combine Calm Mind with Psychic and teach Espeon Shadow Ball via TM30, and it will be very powerful. Shadow Ball also gives Espeon coverage against its Ghost-type weakness.

One thing to avoid with Espeon is pitting it against Dark-type or Bug-type moves. Espeon's Defense is its worst stat, and while its Special Defense isn't bad, it's not going to protect it from strong Dark-type or Bug-type Special moves.

Like Jolteon, Espeon's best Natures are Timid (+Spd, -Attk) and Modest (+Sp.Attk).

Umbreon

pokemon tcg umbreon

How to Get:

  1. Eevee's Friendship level must be 220.
  2. Level up Eevee once during the Night for it to evolve into Umbreon.

Friendship Tips:

  • Eevee's Friendship level can be checked using the same methods mentioned above.
  • A quick way for trainers to raise their Friendship with Eevee is by having it walk alongside them.
  • Other methods of raising Friendship include giving Eevee a massage in Veilstone City, or giving Eevee plenty of vitamins to raise its Stats. There are also Friendship-raising berries, but these berries will lower a base stat, so be careful.

Umbreon is a Dark-type Pokemon and is very tanky. It's commonly used in battle to soak up damage and stall rather than fight.

Umbreon's learnset reflects its status as a tank. It doesn't get good offensive moves, but it learns Confuse Ray, which is always good to inflict on opponents. Give Umbreon moves like Protect to have it stall in battle and chip away at the enemy's health with moves like Assurance, which doubles damage if Umbreon's already been hit in that same turn. To give it some coverage against Fairy-types, Umbreon can be taught Iron Tail since it can't learn any Poison moves.

A good Nature for Umbreon is Careful (+Sp.Def, -Sp.Attk) or Impish (+Def, -Sp.Attk). Umbreon's Special Attack stat is rather useless, and there aren't too many Dark-type Special moves it learns upon leveling up.

Leafeon

pokemon tcg leafeon

How to Get: Level up Eevee once near the Moss Rock in Eterna Forest.

  • This can be done by battling enemies until Eevee levels, or by giving Eevee a Rare Candy.
  • The Moss Rock is located near the entrance to Eterna Forest, so enter from Route 205.

Leafeon, as its name suggests, is a Grass-type Pokemon. It trades its Special Attack and Special Defense for a high Attack and Defense with moderate Speed.

As a Grass-type, Leafeon has many weaknesses, but its good stats and surprisingly decent learnset make it a good battler. Thanks to its high Attack, Leafeon can make use of Dig to cover its Fire-type weakness. It can also learn X-Scissor, a Bug-type move, via TM which can deal super effective damage on Psychic and Dark-type Pokemon. One way to really use Leafeon is to have it learn Swords Dance and a hard-hitting, Physical move that gives it STAB, such as Leaf Blade. Stack up Leafeon's Attack using Swords Dance 1-2 times, and then use Leaf Blade.

Leafeon can either have an Adamant (+Attk, -Sp.Attk) or a Jolly (+Spd, -Sp.Attk) Nature. The Adamant Nature is for those who want to use Leafeon more aggressively in battle, and the Jolly Nature can help Leafeon strike first.

Glaceon

pokemon tcg glaceon

How to Get: Level up Eevee once near the Ice Rock on Route 217.

  • The quickest way to get to the Ice Rock is to Fly to Snowpoint City. This will save trainers from navigating through Mt. Coronet (Celestic Town entrance). From there, go past Acuity Lakefront and follow the path to Route 217.
  • The Ice Rock is located at the top-right of Route 217.

While Glaceon's Special Attack is up with Jolteon and Espeon's, it doesn't have the same Speed as they do. Instead, Glaceon is built to take a hit, which is something Jolteon and Espeon struggle with in battle.

Teach Glaceon Hail to make use of its Snow Cloak or Ice Body Ability. Snow Cloak will raise Glaceon's evasion while it's hailing; Ice Body (Hidden Ability) will gradually restore Glaceon's health as long as hail is in effect.

A good Nature for Glaceon is Modest (+Sp.Attk, - Attk), Calm (+Sp.Def, -Attk) or Bold (+Def, -Attk). A Slow Attacker, Glaceon doesn't need anything more lowering its Speed. If any of Glaceon's stats can take a blunder, it is their Attack.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available for the Nintendo Switch.
